It is with deep regret we announce the passing of Brenda Dixon at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on June 1, 2025. Born in Sydney, Brenda was the daughter of the late Edward and Annie Mae Ponee of Westmount.
Brenda was employed with the Province of Nova Scotia for 32 years before retiring in 2002. She was employed with the N.S. Department of Transportation in Sydney River for 18 years and later transferred to the N.S. Department of Labour (Fire Marshal’s Division) for 14 years until her retirement at the age of 50.
Brenda is survived by sisters Maureen Adam (Brian) and Yvette Hicks (David); and brothers Sam (Linda), Lawrence (Adele), Barry, Julian (Janine) and Trevor (Mary Francis). Brenda is also survived by several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Brenda was predeceased by her father - Edward in 2004, her mother - Annie Mae in 2013, her dearest husband - Stewart Dixon in 2007, her nephew Barry Michael Ponee in 1975, her niece Stephanie Stockley (Adam) in 2010 and her first husband Frank Bellefontaine in 1999.
Brenda was dealt many challenges during her life time and met them head on, but was mostly known for her kindness and unselfishness and was never afraid to say “hello” to a complete stranger. Brenda’s great passion was NASCAR racing and sitting having coffee at Tim Horton’s, doing the daily crossword puzzle and watching Coronation Street.
There will be no visitation. A memorial mass will be held at Holy Rosary Parish, Westmount on Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements and condolences are under the care of T.W. Curry Funeral Home, George Street, Sydney, N.S.
