It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we, the family of Cameron MacInnis (91), announce his passing on August 11, 2022. Cameron is survived by his loving family; his sons Stephen (Janet) MacInnis and Michael (Mary) MacInnis, his grandchildren; Shaun (Carissa) MacInnis, Morgan (Jessica) MacInnis, Melissa MacInnis (Robert Smith), Gillian (Benito) Delorenzo and Patrick (Tayler) MacInnis; his pride and joy are his great grandchildren Isla and Cammi MacInnis, Cameron MacInnis, Dominic and Cullen Smith, Emmy and Benito Delorenzo and Merrick MacInnis. Also left to mourn are his dear friend Kaye Boutilier and many nieces, nephews and God children.
He is predeceased by his parents Donald John and Mary Elizabeth MacInnis, his darling wife Dolores, his son Edward and his brothers and sisters.
Cam grew up in a large, tight knit family on Alexandra Street and later moved and settled in Prime Brook to raise his own family. He was always an active member of his community which included volunteering his time and talents to be a founding member of Brookshaven Hall in Prime Brook. Through his initiative and leadership he was able to secure the land to build the community hall through a generous donation by M.E. McCormick. His love of sports saw him involved in hockey, baseball and boxing through the years. His talent was not limited to playing but also to coaching and creating teams as needed for his community such as the Brooks Combines for both hockey and fastball.
Cameron’s career in plumbing and pipe fitting brought him all over Cape Breton where he was one of the first to have his Journeyman Seal from the city of Sydney. He trained and mentored many coworkers through the years who continued to remain in contact long after he retired. Cameron was limitless in his talents which included being able to play multiple instruments. After five minutes he could play anything he picked up. He knew all of the best fishing locations and would fish year round. While he loved going to the lake for a peaceful time, he was most content fishing alongside any family who wanted to join. Cam’s love for nature carried through into his flower and vegetable gardens. He was a natural green thumb and continued to care for his own vegetable garden at 91 years old.
Cameron’s house was always an open door for anyone to come for a great time or for a compassionate ear to listen. He was well known for helping family, friends and strangers alike. We all hope to carry on his memory by practicing his wonderful life values.
We would like to thank Dr. Myatt and his staff, the VON, Palliative care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Hospice Care and Dr. Anne Frances D’Intino for the fabulous care and comfort that they provided.
A private family service will be held. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.twcurry.com. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to a charity of your choice.
