It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Camille Slaney Kennedy in her 94th year. Camille was born to Gertrude Aucoin (née Fraser) and Bernie Gillis.
Camille was a devoted mother above all else. Widowed at 34, she was left to raise her 7 children on her own after the unexpected death of her husband, Claver, at the age of 36. Camille was forever grateful to the extended community who came together to help her during this unimaginably difficult time. She never forgot their generosity.
Camille is survived by her husband, Joe Kennedy; her children, Paul (Elaine), Brian, Cathy (Mike), Lawrence (Claire), Chris (Jacqueline), Brenda (Blair), Kim (Carmen); her grandchildren, Brendan, Deanna, Stephanie, Kristin, Matt, Meaghan, Nathan, Maggie, Emma, Graham and great grandchildren, Mason, Milo, Mae and Bridget. She is also survived by special friend Laura MacPherson who was a devoted companion in Camille’s later years.
Camille’s proudest moment was seeing her children graduate from school. She would not accept anything less and was determined that they have the opportunities she was not afforded in her young life. After having raised her children, Camille returned to school. She completed her CNA at 52 years old and worked in that career for several years.
Camille was predeceased by her husband Claver Slaney (1928-1965), her parents, as well as her brother Charles (Chick) Aucoin.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the third and fourth floors of the Northside General Hospital.
