Born in Sydney January 29, 1941 the fourth of five children to Benjamin Sinclair MacEachern and Gladys Cecelia (MacDonald).
Carolyn’s first job was bookkeeping at Ashby Radio. This was also the time when she met Louie. They married soon after and 52 years later theirs is a love story worthy of admiration.
God was the center of Carolyn’s life. Mass and a daily drive, (the rosary run) to pray the rosary and take in the beauty of the ocean brought her joy. Carolyn taught religious education, was involved in the RCIA program, and became a foster parent through her involvement in her church. Many children thrived under the care she and Louie provided.
Somewhere between raising her girls, Denise and Lysa, maintaining a well run home, Carolyn upgraded her education, attended vocational school, and became an LPN. She worked for many years at The Cove Guest Home. Advancing her studies, she completed foot care training and worked until very recently helping people have healthy, happy feet.
Carolyn’s dedication to the wellbeing of her mother and Aunt Ethel was noble. Through her actions they had the opportunity to travel, enjoy the daily “rosary run” and remain in their home for many years.
Carolyn and Louie looked forward to golf get-a-ways. While Louie golfed, Carolyn drove the cart during these happy outings. Carolyn got the travel bug after a trip to Cuba and eagerly anticipated her yearly trips. With travel buddies or sometimes solo, she experienced Italy, Mexico, Dominican Republic, and cruised the Caribbean Sea. Her trips to Halifax to relax in-style, poolside, at Denise and Shawn’s were also a highlight.
When it was time to sell their family home Carolyn and Louie found the ideal residence for their retirement. They didn’t know at the time just how perfect it would be. The friendships that developed, the fun that was had on warm summer evenings, and the sense of belonging was life changing. Carolyn felt so blessed to be surrounded by loving neighbours: a true community.
In April 2004, two very special people arrived – Ty and Lauryn. Her twin grandbabies were the air she breathed. She retired that very day to devote herself to her role as grandmother.
Carolyn was predeceased by her children Stephen Wayne and Michelle Marie in infancy, her parents, and brothers Ben and Ronnie MacEachern.
Carolyn will be greatly missed by her husband, Louie, daughters Denise (Shawn Hirtle), Lysa (Joel MacFadyen), grandchildren Ty and Lauryn, sisters Ina Mortimer and Gloria O’Dea, sisters-in-law Mabel MacEachern and Joan Marchand, and by many nieces and nephews who were blessed to have Aunt Carolyn in their lives.
Cremation has taken place and there will be a funeral mass to celebrate her life at 10am on Thursday, Dec. 31, 2020 at Holy Redeemer Parish with Fr. Paul Murphy Celebrant. Due to Covid seating is limited to no more than 100.
