It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and cherished sister, Catherine (Kaye) Dilney on Friday, September 8 at Harbourstone Enhanced Care. Mom was born on October 8, 1926, the daughter of the late Wasyl (William) and Mary (Yurchesyn) Furdas. Kaye was a registered nurse who worked at the City Hospital. She enjoyed and looked forward to the Retired Nurses luncheons. Kaye valued her Ukrainian heritage and her Ukrainian Church where she sang in the choir. Up until Covid, she was a very active member in the Ukrainian Ladies Club, selling cards at bingo on Tuesday nights, modeling in their fashion shows, making "Pedaheh" (perogies), Catering and visiting the sick. Kaye was a very kind, adventerous, curious and generous person. She always put others before herself.
Kaye is survived by her son John (Shelagh) of Calgary, daughters Tammy Mary Catherine and Maxine both of Sydney, sisters Ruby Antle of Barrie, ON, Marie (Karl) Halloran and Natalie (Vince) MacLean both of Sydney, brothers John Furdas of Sydney, Michael (Sharon Nordine) Furdas of Kingston, ON and Walter (Lauren MacEachern) Furdas of Sydney. She is also survived by sister-in-law Helen and many nieces and nephews whom she always showed great interest in. She was our Matriarch.
Sadly Kaye was predeceased by her husband Max, her oldest daughter Natalie of Calgary and her only grandchild Michael as well as brothers Joseph, Gordon (in infancy) and sisters Anne Veinotte and Anastasia "Nellie" Penney.
The family would like to extend a special "thank you" to the staff of Steelworkers Lane in Harbourstone Enhanced Care for the kindness and dignity that they showed to her during her residency there.
