Catherine 'Kay' Regina (O’Toole) Grace, Passed away peacefully on Saturday February 26, 2022 at the age of 81. Born in Louisbourg, NS, she was the only daughter of the late Donald and Catherine (Price) O’Toole.
Kay attended Normal College in Truro and had a brief teaching career in Antigonish, NS, where she met her first husband, the late Bernard Grace. After residing in the U.S. for several years, they returned to Sydney. Kay worked for J.W. Rudderham and later A.B. Mechanical. She loved music of all types and was an avid hockey fan, faithfully attending Cape Breton Eagles games with Cathy and Frank, and enjoying many square dances over the years. Education was also important to her, and she obtained her business degree later in life while working full time and raising a family.
Kay enjoyed travelling and spent many weekends taking Cathy to Highland Dance competitions, or taking Darrin and Robert to hockey tournaments. She was able to check off some bucket list vacations.
She is survived by her husband Frank Cash, only daughter, Cathy (John MacQueen), Sydney, sons Darrin (Eimer Quinn), Ottawa, and Robert (Susan) Halifax; grandchildren Cory Hann (Laura Kurkimaki) Ottawa; Kyle Hann (Brianne Walsh) North Sydney; Jack, Ava, Ryan, and Emma Grace, Halifax. She is also survived by great grandchildren – Lexie and Levi Hann, North Sydney, and Frank’s son Christopher.
Also left to mourn are her brothers, Leonard (Janet) – Truro, Ernie (Doreen) – Bedford, and Roderick (Sophie) – Sydney, sisters-in-law Bertha (George) McCabe, PEI; Theresa MacDonald, Oregon; Margaret MacNeil, New Hampshire; Phil (Greg) Campbell, Antigonish; Cecilia Grace, California; Margaret (Stan) Campbell, Sydney; Elizabeth MacNeil, Sydney; brothers-in-law Jerome Grace, New Jersey; Roddie Grace, Florida; John Finnegan, Delaware; Charlie (Marie) Cash, Irish Cove, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was predeceased by her parents, her first husband Bernard Grace, and brothers Dennis, Vincent, Greg, and twin brothers in infancy; sisters-in law Marie Finnegan, Claire Grace; brothers-in-law John Grace, Donald Grace, JB MacDonald, Pius MacNeil, George Cash.
The family would like to extend thanks and appreciation to the staff and residents of the Northside Community Guest Home for the care, love and friendship shown to Kay during her time there. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia or the Northside Community Guest Home Foundation.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, March 3rd, from 3pm to 7pm at TW Curry Parkview Chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated the following day at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys at 11am, private family interment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
