“Nurses are there when the first breath is taken, and nurses are there when the last breath is taken. Although it is more enjoyable to celebrate the birth, it is just as important to comfort in death.” These words express the life of our loving mother and Nana so well, as her career was spent caring for others in all stages of their life as an LPN.
Born in Sydney, Cecilia was the daughter of Raymond and Loretta (Corbett) Muise. Her career was spent caring for others both at St. Rita’s Hospital, and then for many years at the CB Regional Hospital, where she worked primarily on 4A. As part of her work, Cecilia made a difference in the lives of so many, helping them through both celebratory and difficult times. She had a way of bringing out the best in others through a smile and her kindness. Among her coworkers she also made many lifelong friends. Cecilia was a wonderful mother, always there for her children. She had a great sense of humour, and loved a good laugh, or a good tease by her beloved grandchildren. Her family meant everything to her, and her favorite pastime was to spend days in Iona, surrounded by first her children, and then her grandchildren, as the family grew. Her happiest moments were when she could relax with her family all around her, and of course take constant photos to preserve each moment.
Cecilia is survived by her children: Shaun (Alana MacLeod) MacDougall, Jason (Michelle Ongo) MacDougall, and Jennifer (Terry Mulley) MacDougall, as well as her “second daughter” Shelly Brookman. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Hunter, Jeremy, JJ, Luca, Brennan, Brianna, Mya and Emmett. She was predeceased by her parents Raymond and Loretta, her beloved twin Amelia Moore, and daughter-in-law Joanne Pyke.
The family would like to thank Dawn McLaine, and the staff of 4C at the CB Regional Hospital, for their compassionate care of Cecilia. We are particularly grateful for the efforts of the staff of Palliative Care, and Donnie Campbell in creating a beautiful celebration in advance of Cecilia’s 69th birthday.
