It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, brother and friend Charlie Peter Googoo, 75, of Wagmatcook First Nation. Charlie passed away peacefully with family by his side on February 3, 2024 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Wagmatcook on July 28, 1948, Charlie was the oldest son to the late Peter and Helen Googoo (Pierro).
Charlie possessed an unwavering love for his family and friends and would have done anything for them at a moment’s notice. Charlie was always there to offer advice, lend a listening ear and share words of encouragement to anyone who needed it.
Charlie will be sadly missed by daughters Loretta, Monica, Daniel, Eunice, Julia (Neal), Alexandria (Christopher) all of Wagmatcook. Sons Daniel, Charles (Amanda), Michael Lafford (Charlene) all of Wagmatcook and Cory (Brandy) of New Brunswick. Sisters Florence (Wayne) of Sydney, Eunice Peck, Tina (Kenny) Sister in law Doris (Wilfred), Brothers Peter (Karen), Vincent Sr, Richard all of Wagmatcook. Uncle, Francis Pierro Sr. (Anna K), Aunt Kathleen Pierro. Godchildren Colleen Googoo, Andra Bernard, Francis John Googoo, Richard Pierro as well as 33 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren many nieces & nephews and friends.
Along with his parents, Peter and Helen Googoo, Charlie was proceeded by daughter Elaine Rose Googoo, son Grant Lee Googoo (infancy), sisters Geraldine and Sylvia, brother Wilfred, 2 siblings (infancy), nieces Renee Ann Peck, Vallie MacAulay, twins Patricia and Stacy Googoo, Charly Lafford-Bernard. Nephew George Bernard. Godchildren Ida Pierro, Cyril Peck, Darryl Isadore and godson/nephew Dwayne D Peck.
The Googoo family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at Inverness Hospital and Cape Breton Regional Hospital as well as the Wagmatcook Health Staff who provided exceptional care to Charlie during his final days. Your compassion and dedication will never be forgotten. Wela’like.
Visitation for Charlie will begin after 6 pm Saturday, February 10, 2024 at the Wagmatcook Elder Center, Fishery Road, Wagmatcook. Funeral mass will be celebrated at the Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha Church, Monday, February 12, 2024 with Father Victor Ozonoh officiating.
