REID, Christine Adele It is with heavy hearts that the family of Christine Adele Reid announce her peaceful passing at the age of 94 on January 10, 2020 at Serenacare Moncton, NB. Born in Glace Bay, Cape Breton and brought up in nearby Reserve Mines, her love for Cape Breton was strong. Christine was the daughter of the late John Thomas MacLeod and Mary Florence MacLeod (Munroe). In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband George Cleveland Reid and very dear friend John Hennessey. Christine will be sadly missed by her sister, Margaret MacDonald (the late Rev. C. Dawson MacDonald) of Moncton, NB; and her brother, Gordon MacLeod (the late Gladys MacLeod and the late Helen MacLeod) of Yarmouth, Nova Scotia; as well as cherished cousins and several generations of treasured nieces and nephews. Christine was a Registered Nurse. She trained in Quebec City and went on to serve in hospitals in Montreal, Toronto, London, Ontario and Sydney, Nova Scotia. A highlight of Christine's career took her to Springhill, Nova Scotia where she tended injured miners at the MacCall Dressing Station of the Cumberland Railway and Coal Company. For several years in the seventies Chris and Cleve managed the Wentworth Valley Motel in Wentworth, Nova Scotia. Christine's caring nature was felt by family and friends and extended into the community most notably in her volunteer commitments to the auxillaries of Sydney City Hospital and The Cove Nursing Home. She was a member of Gordon United Church in Reserve Mines and St. Andrew's United Church in Sydney. Christine had many dear and longtime friends who she valued greatly. Her fun-loving personality touched all who knew her. Christine had a special affection for children and animals. She loved ice skating, dancing and music, socializing and hosting. Her house always was a welcoming home away from home for family and friends "from away". Christine's family would like to thank the staff of Serenacare, her home for the past five years, for all their care and kindness. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Sydney, NS and will be announced under the direction of T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney, NS. Interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. In Christine's memory, donations to the IWK Foundation, the SPCA, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Online condolences at www.twcurry.com or www.fergusonsfuneralhome.com
