Daniel Earl Lahey

September 23, 1936September 7, 2020

It is with saddened hearts that we, the family of Daniel (Danny) Earl Lahey, announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother on September 7, 2020 at The Cove Guest Home in Sydney. Danny was born on September 23rd, 1936 in Main-A-Dieu and was the son of the late Daniel and Mary (Molly MacDougall) Lahey; he is also predeceased by his brothers Eddie, Danny, and Ron. First and foremost Danny greatest joy and love was his family. He was a man of humor and principle who always had time for everyone. His larger than life spirit touched many lives both professionally and personally. He was a master mason and was very proud to have worked on the Fortress of Louisburg. Danny had a successful masonry company (DJ Lahey) for many years until he decided he wanted to teach. He obtained his degrees and taught masonry at the Cape Breton Vocational School. He was a talented musician who was well known in the Cape Breton musical community and brought happiness through his music at many events; dances, church choir, retirement homes, Cape Breton hospital socials and as the President of the Cape Breton Musicians Union. Danny was an avid athlete, especially hockey, and took time to coach the sports he loved to play. Danny is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 57 years Sheila and devoted children Rosalie (Bruce Stolz), Joseph (Andrea Moore), Mary and Daniel, grandson Ariel Tan and sisters Sr. Rosalie Lahey , Barbara Zotter (Werner) and, nephews Werner, Ron and Earl Zotter. We will all miss him dearly. The family would like to thank Dr. Paul Murphy, The Cove (Skylight) staff and all friends and family who visited Danny while he was home and in the Cove to help keep his spirits high and support the family. Cremation has taken place and a funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday September 18, 2020 at Our Lady of Fatima with Fr. Patrick O'Neill presiding. Memories and condolences may be forwarded to the family by visiting www.twcurry.com. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Immaculate Conception Cemetery Fund; Main a Dieu.

Sheila, please accept our sincere condolences on Danny’s passing. It was an honour and a privilege for me to stand next to Danny in the Men of Faith over the years. His wonderful voice and perfect timing added so much to the music and the liturgy. There are so many happy memories of our times together. We will keep you, Dan and family in our prayers.

This dear man was a daily customer who brightened our aisles with his spark and charisma from entrance to exit. Occasionally he would sing a few lines from one of his favorite oldies..dressed to the nines and smiling from ear to ear. He has been missed over the past few years.
Sending my sincere condolences to you all. He knew he was loved by a very special family!
Love Debbie xoxo

Sincere Sympathy on the passing of Danny. Danny hired me for the office of Local 355 some years ago, he was always there to teach me and lend a hand. I so enjoyed his many, many stories.
There is music at the throne today...God Bless

Shelia. I had just learned of the passing of Danny. I now live in Toronto and with the COVID -19 not much seems to hit the news. It was a real pleasure for me to have known Danny for many years and how much I enjoyed doing music with him. Back in 2003, Father MacPhee asked me to get some people together to sing at 900 o’clock mass on Sunday. I was able get a good team together which became very popular and we became known as Men of Faith. We were able to record a CD and travel most of Cape Breton and every place we went people knew Danny and and his music ability. I will truly miss Danny and know he is doing some great singing in heaven
