It is with broken hearts that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and sister, Deborah Christine Jollymore on Sunday, April 28 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Chris was born in Sydney on April 18, 1956, to the late Gilbert and Rebecca (Porter) MacIntyre.
Besides her parents, Chris is predeceased by the love of her life, her husband John R. Jollymore and her siblings Karen Anne and Richard Fabian MacIntyre. Chris is survived and will be deeply missed by her dearly loved daughter, Dawn Collier (Chris), grandchildren Robert and Brianna MacGillivary, Sierra Stapleton and great-grandchildren Grayson, Logan, and Bennett. She is also survived by her sisters Charmaine Christie, Theresa and Carmelitta (Andy) MacIntyre, and brothers Gilbert (Karen) and Wayne MacIntyre.
Chris will always be remembered for her strength, her sense of humour, and her caring, generous heart. Family was her priority and her grandchildren were truly the apple of her eye. Special adventures with her grandkids were a regular part of their days together. Whether it was fishing, craft making, or out exploring the world around them, the kids were always excited to see what the day with Gramma would bring. And at night, tucking into bed, they couldn’t wait for Chris to don her Granny Garbanzo role and tell amazing stories full of adventure and imagination.
Family members often said that they owed much to Chris in times when they needed assistance. In her capacity as a nurse, a caring person and famous for her baking, she shared who she was with us all. She had an adventurous approach to life, seizing opportunities to do something new, and facing obstacles with strength and wisdom. Her many hand-stitched quilts and crocheted Cape Breton tartan throws are cherished works of art and love. Her positive approach and her kind heart also helped her throughout her 30+ years as a hospital and palliative care Registered Nurse.
A celebration of Chris’s life will take place at 1:00pm on Tuesday, May 7 at TW Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St., Sydney. Interment to take place in Resurrection Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.twcurry.com. Chris worked to support people experiencing homelessness and addictions. If desired, donations in Chris’s memory may be made to addictions and homeless support organizations or the charity of your choice.
