Dorothy 'Dot' Mae Gushue

91, Sydney

Dorothy Mae Gushue, 91, of Ashby passed away suddenly Saturday, Nov. 5 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with her family by her side.

Born in Holyrood, N.L., she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Mary (Targett) Whalen.

She was a member of St. Theresa parish, Sydney. Dot was a devoted mother who raised her large family placing them above everything else.

She is survived by seven daughters, Carol (late James) Lahey, Ontario, Theresa (Joseph) Gale, Sydney, Jeanette (late Jack) Fletcher, British Columbia, Marlene (John) Dixon, Sydney, Kim (Albert) Harriet, Sydney, Brenda (John) AuCoin, Reserve Mines, and Dotti (Andrew) MacNeil, Ontario; and five sons, Tom (Addie), Ontario, Raymond, David, Terry and Robert, all of Sydney; also by her sister, Mary Josephine ‘Dodie’ Wall of Sydney; 25 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; sister-in-a-law, Cassie Whalen.

She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas, a son, Patrick, three daughters, Florence, Debbie and Linda, by brothers, Mike, Edward and Patrick, her sister Mary Smith and by a grandson in infancy.

There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held at a later date.
