Edward Anthony Francis, Wagmatcook First Nation passed away peacefully on May 10th 2023 at Victoria Memorial Hospital. A devout Catholic he belonged to the Queen of the World Catholic Church in Wagmatcook First Nation. Born In Wagmatcook on August 31, 1942 to the late Thomas Francis and Julie Paul. Best known as "Uncle Eddy" to all that knew him. He took this role with great pride. Never leaving without a hug and I love you. He was the reason we smiled, felt loved and believed in the goodness of people.
Edward was the most kindest and friendliest man one can ever meet. He was a Indian Residential School Survivor and lived through Centralization. For this made him a strong resilient man with great faith in God. He was known for his humour and quick wit which got him through the tough times. His message to his nieces and nephews were to "Keep going don't stop living for me" and "don't pick up any wooden nickels". He was still making us laugh on his final days. He was a humble man that did not need to live in a mansion he was happy in his tiny cabin of a home. Where he had lots of company playing bingo, listening to music, watching western movies, drinking bottomless cups of tea and plenty to smoke (medicinal of course).Uncle Eddy did not have any children but he loved all his nieces and nephews that played a huge role in his life and love. We loved him like a Dad. He never missed any special occasions and was proud of each and every one of our accomplishments.
Surviving are his nieces and nephews Christopher, Dale (Sharon) Paqntkek, Barry (Doody) Eskasoni, Gerald, Rodney and nieces Patricia MacRury (Neil), Pamela Toney (Brian), Lindsay Bernard all of Wekoqmaq. Love so deep for us we see the heartache in our children as they grieve a man so much like their own Granddad. Uncle Eddy will be missed by many youth and Elders in Wagmatcook. He will also be missed by his choosen family Victoria Pierro, Karen Pierro and Milley Isadore who were with him daily. For that we are eternally grateful. He is survived by his only brother Francis Joe Francis Wagmatcook who will miss his companionship and survived by his sister Annie Joe of New Hampshire.
He was predeceased by his sister Teresa Louise Bernard We'koqmaq, Nannette Olseson, Katie Googoo and his brother Benjamin Francis Wagmatcook.
We would like to Thank the Doctors and nurses at the Victoria Memorial Hospital in Baddeck for the care they provided for our Uncle Eddy and family.
