OBITUARY

George Boyle Cash

June 27, 1942May 5, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father, and grandfather, George Boyle Cash, 77, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care on May 5th, 2020. Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Tom and Mary (Boyle) Cash. He grew up in Irish Cove. In 1967, he moved to Toronto to attend the Metropolitan Toronto Police Academy, and upon graduation he served as a constable with the 55th Division of the Metropolitan Toronto Police Commission. He married Mary (Proctor) in 1969 and they settled in Scarborough and started their family before returning to Cape Breton in 1973. He worked as an insurance adjuster in Sydney, before finding his true calling as a carpenter. He ran a successful contracting business, working for many years building and improving homes across the island until retirement. His favorite place to be was his bungalow in Irish Cove (God’s Country) spending time with friends and family where many cherished memories were made. He had a kind and gentle nature that was felt by all who new him and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his three daughters, Colleen Cash (Derek Jury), Halifax, Catherine Cash-Jacobs (Brad), Sydney River, and Alana Cash-MacKinnon (Rob), Halifax; sisters, Margaret Campbell (Stan), Sydney and Elizabeth MacNeil, Sydney; brothers, Frankie (Kay), Sydney, and Charlie (Marie), Irish Cove; grandchildren, Thomas, Luke, Logan Jacobs and Teaghan Jury and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his wife Mary (Proctor) Cash, brother Kevin Cash, brother-in-law Francis MacNeil and niece Catherine Campbell. We would like to thank the staff of Wentworth Court at Harbourstone Enhanced Care for their loving care and support of Dad. A special thank you is extended to Chris and Darin of Home Instead Senior Care for their companionship and compassion. Due to COVID19 restrictions, there will be a private family visitation only. A funeral mass and celebration of George’s life will be held at a later date. Internment to take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney River. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Salvation Army. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.twcurry.com. We hope he is on a covered veranda in a thunderstorm with a good book and a strong cup of tea enjoying a view of the Bras D’Or Lakes.

I've been thinking about you all often over the last several days.
Colleen, Catherine and Alana I have many fond memories of the times growing up when we would take our trips to sydney and stay
at your home. I know you will miss your dad tremendously but I'm sure he's enjoying being in the arms of your mother. Hope you find
better days ahead. Peace be with you all.
Love Always, your cousin,
Darlene

My condolences to the Cash family on the passing of George.
To Colleen, Catherine, and Alana, my sincere sympathy on the passing of your beloved Dad. He was so proud of his three girls, as was your Mom. It is a tribute to them that you are all such lovely and caring daughters.
My thoughts are with you at this sad time.

My condolences to Colleen and Catherine and Alana and families and Margaret and Charlie and Frankie and Liz. I watched the service last night thinking of how many Irish Cove celebrations I've attended with George. I look forward, at some point, to an in-person gathering where the serious story-telling can happen.

Saddened to hear of George's passing. The "Cove" has suffered a loss! We can no longer look across the road to see if a light is on at the bungalow. George loved the cove. He will be missed.

Dear Colleen:
Sincere condolences to you and to your family during this time of sadness. The loss of a parent/grandfather/sibling/friend is difficult at the best of times but more so when family and friends cannot be present to offer their support.
Take care and take time to be with your family. Talk soon.
Hugs and prayers,
Ann Cosgrove

LINDA CASH LATELLA

Just finished observing the service for George, my cousin. Our condolences to his daughters and their families. Our condolences to his sisters, Elizabeth and Margaret and his brothers, Frankie and Charlie. I remember him as quiet like his dad, my Uncle Tom. One year, he drove Barbara, Florence, myself and another friend into Sydney so we could go to a fair then he drove us home to Irish Cove. He also drove us to a dance in Big Pond. He was quiet but humble and accommodating. I enjoyed the pictures of him with his grandchildren. He was talented as a woodworker and his work will be a reminder to family members. God bless you all. Much affection, Linda and Joe Latella

I am sorry for your loss, and grateful that I had the chance to know George--your dad, brother, uncle, grandad, cousin, neighbour and friend--through all of the years around Irish Cove and Sydney.

The lake will miss him but we'll remember him, especially when we swim.

The broadcast prayers were nice. It will be good to see you all in person, when the time is right. Lovely photo.

Rest in peace, George Cash: light perpetual shine upon you.

My condolences to you all.
