Eskasoni
George Fidelis Paul, 74, Eskasoni, passed away on September 16, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, with his family by his side.
Born in Potlotek, he was the son of the late Frank M. and Isabelle (Battiste-Joe) Paul.
He was a member of the Holy Family parish, Eskasoni. He was a barber by trade, and an accomplished fiddler, partaking in benefit concerts, church fundraising and Treaty Day Showcases. He was a past member of the Cape Breton Fiddlers Association and participated in the Maritime Fiddling competitions.
His love of the outdoors included bird watching, floral gardens and yard maintenance. He enjoyed travel throughout the Maritimes and Maine.
Mr. Paul is survived by his wife, the former Annie Sylliboy; son, Brian (Serena); stepson Wayne (Elizabeth) Sylliboy; granddaughters, Paulina, Brianna, Rebecca and Isabella; grandson, Brian David; and step grandsons, Eric and Lyndon; sisters, Mary Ann (Murray) Marshall and Mary Carmel Mellen of Potlotek; and brother, David Joe, Eskasoni; brother-in-law, Benjamin Sylliboy; sister-in-law, Barbara (James) MacDonald; goddaughters Chrisanna Gould and Patsy Frances and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, George was predeceased by sisters, Evelyn (John) Joe and Theresa (Ralph) Wade; brothers, Frank Joe, Andrew (Ku’j) Joe and Stephen (Casey) Paul.
Visitation for the late George Paul will be held after 7 pm on Saturday, September 22, at the Gabriel Centre (Church). A Musicians’ gathering and feast will be held on Sunday, September 23 at 2 pm. Funeral mass to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, September 24 at 10:30 am at Holy Family Church. Meal and Salite to follow.
In accordance with George’s wishes, cremation will follow and a private burial will be held at a later date.
