Rev. Gregory Campbell passed away on Friday, November 30, 2012 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Born July 7, 1943 in Sydney, he was the son of the late John E. and Mary E. (MacEachern) Campbell.
Greg was a graduate of Sydney Academy. He later graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in 1964 and from the Urban College in Rome. He was ordained a priest on May 19, 1968 at Holy Redeemer Church by the late Bishop William E. Power. He continued his graduate education at University of Toronto, St. Paul’s Ottawa, Boston College and Assumption College, Worcester Mass.
He served as assistant at St. Anthony’s, Glace Bay in (1968-1970) and followed with work in team ministry for the Glace Bay area (1970-77). He was appointed chaplain at St. F.X. University (1979-1981). He later joined the Counseling Centre from which he retired in 1996.
He leaves to mourn his sister, Barbara Horechuk; brothers, Blick (Colleen), Robbie, all of Sydney; Archie (Lauren), Thornhill, ON; sister-in-law Jody, Sydney Mines and friend Sister Louise, Halifax; his nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother Neil; sisters-in-law Joan and Lindsay and brother-in-law Fred.
Visitation for Rev. Campbell will take place at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel on Monday, December 3, 2012 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. with the Vigil Service to take place at 7:30 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 4 at 10:00 am at Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier with burial to follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
