Helen Ethel Lothier

September 12, 1928June 25, 2019

We are grieved to announce the loss of our mother, Helen Ethel Lothier (nee Wadden) formerly from Coxheath Road, Sydney, on June 25, 2019 at Tiagh Solas at the Northside General Hospital at the age of 90 years. Growing up in Sydney, Helen attended Holy Angels High School and trained as a Stenographer. Helen and Paul Henry Lothier married on Valentie’s Day in 1952. They built their home and family in Coxheath. Helen had worked at Charlotte Street stores and the Sydney Steel Plant office prior to marriage and decided to go back to work after the children started in school. While we kids mourned the loss of her fantastic homemade bread, she enjoyed a rewarding career as a secretary to several directors at the CB Addiction Center. A lover of travel, Helen and Paul made many road trips to Ontario and into the US, summer vacations always, plus she enjoyed visits all the way to BC and Scotland. Never one to shirk a challenge, Helen got her driver’s license when she was in her sixties. Helen is survived by sons, Douglas (Sherri), Kenny (Kelly) and daughter Jean Dugas (Ken). Nanny will also be mourned by grandchildren Yvette, Krystal, Kaitlin, the boys, Joey, Chris, Kenneth, Andrew, Johnathan, Derek, and 9 great-grandchildren, whose visits she cherished. She was predeceased by her wonderful mother, Florence MacSween, and her husband Paul Henry Lothier in 2003, also by a beloved infant daughter, Carolyn Ann in 1954. The family wants to thank the caregivers at Tiagh Solas, 3rd floor at the Northside General Hospital, they are absolutely the best and most caring people on this Island. We are thankful that she spent her last years in their wonderful care. A visitation will take place at TW Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St. Sydney, Friday June 28, 2019 from 6-9pm. Funeral Service will be held at Christ Church, Trinity Ave, Sydney on Sat. June 29 at 2pm. with Rev. Peter Refuse officiating. Helen would be honored to have donations to your favorite Charity made in her name. My fondest memory of Honey ( that's what the extended family called her) was when I would visit her on school breaks. We'd drink lots of tea and she'd teach me how to play cribbage. It was great getting to know her during those times. She was a sweet woman. My prayers and thoughts are with you during this time of mourning.
