OBITUARY
Ms. Helen 'Loie' Delores Peters
June 18, 1931 – February 9, 2021
Having completed her 89 year journey with us, Mom returned to her heavenly home on Feb. 9 surrounded by her babies, as she referred to us aged 47-71. After her brief battle with cancer, her wish to stay at home was fulfilled. Her devotion to family along with her unwavering belief in God, brought her support and inner peace during her final days.
Born in Neil’s Harbour to George and Bridget (Whitty) Barron, our Mom married young and started her family. As a wife and young mother, Mom was devoted to making a loving home for our family. Mom had boundless love for her 8 children; Debbie McPhee (Fraser), Gary (Lynn) Peters, David Peters, Darlene (Francis) Rozicki, Pam Rasmussen (Jim, deceased), Darrell (Vivian) Peters, Janice (Joe) MacIntyre and Shaun (Michaela) Peters. Over the years, her role of “Mom” evolved to “Nana”, when her family grew to include 16 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Mom always made time to spend with her last remaining sibling, her brother Sanford.
Her quick wit and genuine, magnetic personality, made her the wonderful person for which she will always be remembered by those who were fortunate enough to cross her path in life. She truly lived every day to the fullest and found joy in the smallest of things from a phone call, a Sunday drive, a game of cards, socializing with friends at the Casino, Bingo, to being elbow deep in a feed of lobster.
Active throughout life, she enjoyed many activities and cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, friends and especially Gertie. As we grew and left the nest, Mom found time to volunteer at the Sacred Heart Alter Association, Branch 12 Legion Ladies Auxiliary and Saint Theresa’s CWL. More recently, Mom could be found at the Sydney Pensioner’s Club, playing a friendly game of shuffleboard.
Mom’s selflessness extended beyond her children as was evident by her decades of support for World Vision, Society of the Little Flower and the Jesuits. Her love and devotion for her brother Sanford included phone calls, watching Mass, Coronation Street, game shows, soaps, sports and playing her weekly Sunday cards after attending Mass together.
Mom was pre-deceased by her loving husband Milton, brothers Percy, Leo, Nick, Sylvester, Walter, Irvin, Eugene and Gabrial (during infancy) and sisters Kay, Mamie and Isabel.
A private family service will be held at Saint Theresa’s Parish with Father Dennis Lamey officiating. Given the current COVID-19 restrictions, the service will be by invite only but it will be live-streamed and can be viewed on TW Curry’s Facebook page starting on Monday, Feb. 15, at 11:00am. Cremation has taken place. The family will be organizing a Celebration of Life for Mom at a later date.
Our sincere Gratitude is extended to the Health Care Team at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, EHS paramedics, the VON and those who made her wish of staying at home possible. A very special thanks to Father Lamey who gave Mom the spiritual support when she needed it most. The family would also like to recognize and thank all those who sent flowers, personally dropped off food, called by phone and came by to visit Mom during her stay at home. Those very personal acts and moments not only warmed our hearts but put a big smile on Mom’s face.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saint Peter’s parish Cemetery Fund in Ingonish, N.S., where Mom will be laid to rest. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.twcurry.com.
Rest In Peace our angel! Your journey here on earth is done.

The Peters Family,
Pam and I met and spent time with your Mom on a couple of occasions while visiting with Darrell and Vivian when she was also visiting. Although we only enjoyed her presence for a short time, it was all we needed to realize that she was indeed a very special lady. Extended love was so very evident in her shining, life filled, twinkling eyes. Time and memories are great friends and we are confident that you all have many. God bless.

Tony and I would like to send our condolences and prayers to all the Peters's Families. "Mama" was a great lady and loved all her children equally. When she would visit Halifax/Dartmouth she always came over for a visit and also to play Tarbish. Even in her 89 year if you counted wrong Louie would catch the mistake. We had lots of fun and laughs. RIP "Mama" you are now home.
