With love, sadness and peace, we announce the passing of Jeanette (Theriault) O’Toole, 78 years, on Saturday February 20, 2021. Born in Sydney on May 26, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Sarah (Joshua) and Raymond Theriault. She was a dedicated teacher for over 30 years, enlisting her own children to help with classroom decorations and projects, spending most of her career as primary teacher and Principal at Eastmount School in Whitney Pier. Jeanette is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Russell, daughter Jill (home), son Sean (Blackett’s Lake), daughter Jennifer (Brad) and grandsons Spencer and Carter Richard (Wolfville) and sisters Paulette (Willie) Ball, Claire (Gerry) Campbell, Raylene Theriault, brother-in-law Carl Hartigan all of Sydney, and brother Paul (Nicole), PEI, sister-in-law Pat (Donnie) Munroe, Sydney, brother-in-law Donnie (Linda) O’Toole, Montreal and many nieces and nephews, she was pre-deceased by sister Emily Hartigan and sister-in-law Bernadette (Donnie) Almon, mother-in-law and father-in-law Florence and Russell Sr. O’Toole. She was a crafter, selling crocheted ornaments and tea towels with partner Arlene Harris in many craft shows in Sydney and Halifax. She was an avid traveller and camper. She especially enjoyed trips to the United States, where she also loved to shop. She loved holidays, decorating, and playing bingo. Donations in memory may be made to Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County. Cremation has taken place. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions, we have chosen to have a private funeral. Those wishing to attend virtually may join the livestream at 11:00am on Wednesday, Feb. 24 on TW Curry’s Facebook page. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.twcurry.com. I remember Jeanette as a good friend from childhood days on Bentinck Street. Her family home was a warm and welcoming place, where her kind-hearted and gentle parents passed on their spirit of generosity to their children, and they on to the next generation, where it thrives still. I remember Jeannette's outgoing, positive nature, and I can still hear, in memory, her quick and hearty laughter.

Yesterday I learned of Jeanette’s passing and yesterday someone shared this with me. I thought I would pass it along to you at this time.
Grief never exits ...but it changes.
It’s a passage , not a place to stay.
Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith...
It is the price of Love.
Our thoughts are with you and family,
Anne and Norm Trudeau

Jeannette was a close dear friend and we shared more than many conversations about anything . She enjoyed so many things and was very involved . She loved to crochet, and was very active in community events. She knew how to get the best out of life and she loved her family and friends. She left behind a legacy to be proud and work hard and be kind to one another. I and many will miss Jeannettes smiles and conversations. My sincere condolences to all who share a love for Jeanette , she is and will be missed . I'm forever grateful to have shared her in my life. Russell you have done a magnificent job being by her side and I'm sure she will be by your side always.

So very sorry to read of Jeanette’s passing. Always caught up on the family news when I would see Raylene at the Centre when our church group would be enjoying supper with the girls.
Spent a lot of fun times on Bentinck St with the family, remember, hop scotch and coasting down the hill to the Credit Union. As they say “the good old days” Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers at this very sad time. Take care all.
Love & Hugs,
Betty & Joe
