We the family regret to announce the passing of Joey Benedict Joe, on Dec 16 surrounded by love. Born to Benedict and Annie-Jane Joe, on Nov 12, 1973, Joey was a lifelong member of the Eskasoni community.
Joey worked for the Eskasoni Band as a laborer and was a talented mechanic often helping any who were in need of repairs. He loved camping and loved to fish just about anywhere, so long as the fish were biting. He cared deeply for his friends and family and cherished time spent with them. Joey was an honest, caring, spiritual and hardworking father, brother, uncle and friend, who never missed an opportunity to display his sense of humor, even during the time of his illness.
Joey was predeceased by his parents Benedict and Annie Jane Joe, god-mother Susie Marshall, maternal grand-parents Ellen and Levi Cabot, paternal grand-parents John and Mary- Isabelle Joe, father and mother in law David and Jean Poulette, sister in law Sandra Poulette, best friend Kenny Googoo, and brother Benedict Levi Joe in infancy. As well as various aunts and uncles.
Joey is survived by his loving wife Claudia, their children Joey-Ben, Newell, Jeanetty, Harmony, Keandra, Nova, Kurt, and Isabella. Sisters Miranda Joe and Julia Young (William), brothers Patrick Joe (Lucy), Dereck Joe (Alice), grand-children Amelia, Merylla, Aiden, Colt, Keaton, and Elijah, god-father Vincent Joe, uncles Peter Cabot and Eddie Joe (Barbara). Joey is also survived by many god-children, nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Dec 28th starting at 7pm and ending on Dec 30th, in Joey’s home at 6 Flagroot Lane in Eskasoni. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish on Dec 30th at 10:30 am with interment to follow in the parish cemetery. Proof of vaccination and photo ID required to attend both events. All provincial covid-19 regulations will be followed through out.
The family would like to express a special thanks to the team at the Palliative Care Unit in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital as well as to Eskasoni Home Care, for their professionalism and care during Joey’s illness.
