It is with sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father John Burke on May 27, 2021 at the age of 95. He was surrounded with family and he showed strength, dignity, kindness and love until his last day with us.
Dad was born on August 9, 1925 in Little Lorraine, son of the late Sarah (Gallant) and Patrick Burke, John was a beloved husband to the late Mary Campbell for over 50 years.
An incredibly proud father of daughters Linda (John) MacDonald, Donna Burke, Lorretta Maloney, Jacqueline (Steve) Rafuse and sons John (Joan), Adrian and Chris. Dad was predeceased by loving daughters Sarah ‘Sally’ (Dave) Bussey and Germaine Pink as well as 9 children in infancy.
He showed great pride in the large family he and mom created and will be dearly missed by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.
His love of the ocean is reflected in the jobs he held during his lifetime in the fishing industry and many years with the Canadian Coast Guard before his retirement.
Besides his wife and parents, John was predeceased by his sisters Kate (Art) Bates, Alice (Leo) Mullins, Bridget (Peter) McCann, Margaret (Cyril) McGrath, brothers Leonard and William.
We would also like to recognize the special bond Dad shared with Mary Price and family.
Special thanks to the staff of Harbourstone Enhanced Care, Saint Anne’s Bay for the care and comfort extended to our father over the last two years.
Funeral Service will be held at the Immaculate Conception Parish in Main A Dieu with Fr. Evo Di Pierro officiating. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery.
