John Gerard ‘Jack’ MacDonald Sydney

We regret to announce the passing of John Gerard ‘Jack’ MacDonald, age 80 of Sydney, on September 24, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

He was the son of the late Hughie and Christina (MacNeil) MacDonald.

Jack loved delivering the Cape Breton Post for the last 10 years and his daily walk with his sidekick Piper. Jack retired from the steel plant after a long career.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Doris (MacIntosh); daughter Sheila (Kevin); brother Daniel; grandson Mark Colby MacDonald and by nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by siblings Ronald (Rannie), Sr. Marie and Sr. Peggie and Norma, Charlie, Jean, Hughie and Beverly.

A special thanks to Palliative Care, VON and Dr. D’Intino for their excellent care.

Donation may be made to Palliative Care Unit at Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

I worked with Jack in the ‘60s at the Steel Plant in the open hearth on the cranes. There was an army of us then, Jack , Mike, Adrian, Moe and Reggie. Jack was a mainstay. He made the shift go fast. Sincere condolences to his family.
