With family by his side, John Martin “Marty” Mac Innis passed on January 24, 2024, at 80 years of age. Martin, a jokester at heart, will forever be remembered for his sense of humour, his kindness, and his immense love and devotion for his daughter and granddaughter.
Born in Sydney on June 29, 1943, Martin was the son of the late John and Mary (York) Mac Innis. He grew up a proud resident of Sutherland Street, graduated from Sydney Academy, and attended St. Francis Xavier, before returning home to work at the Sydney Steel Plant, and later, providing quotes for AMJ Campbell.
A huge history buff and an avid reader, Martin eagerly shared his wealth of knowledge with those around him. He enjoyed daily walks, with a special spot for Petersfield, and loved the game of tarabish and working with numbers. A long time parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima, he also served as an usher for many years.
Martin had a fierce passion for sports, from playing hockey and coaching little league baseball in his younger years, to following and charting out weekly statistics in his older years. His one true love, college football, was on the tv most Saturdays, and if you listened, you would be sure to hear him chant, “cheer, cheer for old Notre Dame…”
Martin is survived by his loving daughter, Laura Lee Mac Innis (Ryan Gosse) and precious granddaughter, Phoebe Joy; sisters Marilyn Seilkop and Debbie (Chris) Beach; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. In addition to his parents, Martin is predeceased by his brother, Davey Mac Innis; brother-in-law, Ron Seilkop and furbaby, Moomoo.
The family wishes to extend immense gratitude and thanks to the staff of Northside General 4 East for the compassion and understanding shown.
A Funeral service will be held at TW Curry Parkview Chapel on Friday, February 16, 2024, at 11:00am. Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. To share memories and condolences please visit www.twcurry.com.
