It is with broken hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt on Monday, July 27. Born on July 20, 1947, in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Allen Michael “Cal” O’Handley and surviving mother, Catherine O’Handley (MacIntyre). She was a teacher of 35 years, with most of her career working for the Eskasoni School Board, where she made tremendous impact on so many and made many of whom became her life-long friends. She loved going to breakfast club and always anxiously awaited supper club with her dearest friends. She grew up in Sydney, where she lived and met the love of her life, Keith. She was an amazing mother that cherished her children dearly. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 45 years, Keith James Rogers; son, Bryce Rogers (Ally); daughter, Shannon MacDonald (Shannon); grandchildren, Kolby, Brianna, Julia, Maddy and Ceilidh. She is also survived by her brother, Charlie O’Handley (Jean) as well as two nieces, a nephew and several cousins. Besides her father, she was pre-deceased by several aunts and uncles. Visitation will be held at TW Curry Parkview Chapel in Sydney on Thursday, July 30th, from 6 until 8 p.m. for family and close friends. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.twcurry.com

We were blessed for 36 years of having the BEST of neighbors!! Karen, how we will miss you!! I will forever remember all the good times we had, watching our kids grow up, the basketball games, the backyard parties, the New Year's Eve parties, the Xmas dinners... and most of all, we will remember your kindness, your patience, your composure, and most of all, your infectious laugh. I LOVED your laugh! Rest in peace, Beautiful Lady, until we meet again.

Keith, Bryce, and Shannon: I am so sorry to hear of Karen’s passing. We will all miss her quick wit and entertaining stories. When I began teaching at Eskasoni School with her, I was amazed at how she seemed to know everybody related to her students! Before too long I realized that she seemed to know everybody period! I will certainly remember her with a smile. I regret that I cannot make it to the wake to share memories with you all, as I am visiting family in Ontario. Maureen Culligan

To Keith, Shannon and Bryce
It is with deep condolences that we send this message on Karen's passing. I first met Karen when we worked together at Don Bosco School. We enjoyed one another's company immediately. She was fun, caring and had a good sense of humor. I always enjoyed meeting her in a store as she would take the time to just catch up on news and wanted to spend with you.
