It is with profound sadness that the family of Katie Bell Cann (Hall) announce her peaceful passing on October 8, 2020 at Saint Vincent Nursing Home. Born in Dominion, Cape Breton, to the late Charles and Alvina (Gracie) Hall. She was the beloved wife to the late Howard Cann. Katie is survived by son; Lewis (Janis), daughter-in-law Barb, brother-in-law Gordon, grandchildren Mark, Cory and Kelsey and great granddaughter Kaidin, whom she adored. She was a special Nana who treasured her conversations and all the time she was so fortunate to spend with her grandchildren. Katie was predeceased by her parents, sisters Emma MacEachern and Josephine Hemmingsen, son Charles and grandchildren Katie and Kristy who she deeply loved and missed. Katie was a centenarian and an amazing, smart, generous compassionate soul. We will forever miss her big smile that lit up every room she entered as well as her wonderful spirit for life. Everyone who knew her loved her strong-willed personality, quick wit and infectious laugh. She treated everyone with kindness and dignity making you feel instantly welcomed into her life. Always there to listen and comfort you in good times and bad then offer great advice. She was beautiful person outside and in, her positive energy and fun-loving personality drew everyone to her. Mom was a person of strong faith who loved her family dearly and spending time with her relatives. Some of mom’s favourite memories involved visits from brother-in-law Gordon and Anne and their family, trips to New England to visit her sisters and their families. Mom really liked spending time with the English family, there were always many laughs, fun conversations and memories formed. A very special thanks to her friends for keeping her socially active, she cherished being a part of your social groups while living in Bedford. Also a special thanks to Barb Coneen, she was deeply grateful for your friendship and kindness. Thanks to the amazing staff at the Saint Vincent Nursing Home for your kindness, and compassion especially the 5th floor. A private family service will be held. It sadden me to hear the about the passing of such a kind and cherished individual. When I was a child, we would get excited to visit with Katie at her home along shoreline. It was pleasure to get an opportunity to see her again last fall. A wonderful woman who will be missed by all that had fortune of being in her life.

I have so many wonderful memories of the Cann family from the time Charlie, Barb, Katie and Kristy were cherished neighbors. Gordon, Anne, George, Mary Lou and Kim became close friends as well. Katie would visit and Lew would come to my house to play cards.
The Canns were all amazing people ... loving, kind and generous. I treasure the memories of you all and am so thankful for the times we spent together.
Your family has had great losses and I send my love and prayers to those who now have wings and to those left behind to feel the loss.

To the family of Katie
Howard was a member of our Cape Breton Woodcrafters Association. He and Katie were always at any gatherings we had at Christmas or in June when we finished our woodworking season. Both were such fine , beautiful people. We had lots of laughs!
At one Craft show Howard and I were working together. I had my 7 year old daughter with me. In my mind I can still see Howard taking her by the hand and taking her to the canteen for an ice cream. Such a kind gesture. I know it sounds like a simple memory but it's a lasting one for me. I'm sure Howard is waiting with open arms to welcome her to Heaven.

Dearest Family,
I was truly saddened to read of the passing of your precious Katie and I want to convey my deepest condolences to all.
Katie used to be my neighbor in Bedford since we lived in the same apartment building. It was a delight to have her there. She was one of the most kindest person I have ever met and she had a heart of gold and this in no exaggeration. I hadn't seen her in many years. She always spoke so lovingly of her family and had such solid wisdom.
You were so very lucky to have such a dear soul in your family. She definitely was a blessing and treasured and deeply loved.
May your faith, family pictures, and times together bring you much comfort at this very difficult time.
I send many warm hugs, much love and prayers and will continue to keep you in my thoughts. Please take care and God bless.
Sincerely, Carol

Dear Lewis and Family Our family is so very sad to hear about Katie’s passing. She was so very sweet to our children, they called her the boss. Pretty sure Howard set that in motion lol. One of my favourite memories of her was when I asked her one day if there were nuts in her brownies. She replied “ no Jeff doesn’t like nuts... Katie and Howard were such a pleasure in our lives and we miss them very much. Please accept our sincere condolences . Prayers and virtual hugs from the Livingston Family.
