Laura 'Gertie' Young

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Laura Gertrude ‘Gertie’ Young on November 15, 2015 at the age of 72. Gertie passed away at home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Gaultois, Newfoundland she was a daughter of the late James and Cassie (MacDonald) Fudge. Gertie worked for Woolco and Walmart in Sydney and proudly retired after 20 years.

Gertie leaves behind her loving husband of 53 years, George William; daughters, Cindy (Earl) Budden, Sydney and Karen (Trevor) Popovich, Ontario; son, Joey (Monique) Young, Alberta; sisters, Marjorie (Gerald) MacGrath, Sarah (Tom) LeBlanc, Marion (Ralph) Haines, Clarice (Marven) McGrath; brothers, Henry (Geraldine)Fudge, Jim ‘Junior’ (Norma) Fudge, George Fudge, Roy (Cathy) Fudge and Sam (Betty) Fudge; grandchildren, Stephanie, Vanessa, Braedon, Jared , Kira, Dekota and Kosstus; great grandchildren, Chloey Elizabeth and Seth George William; she is also survived by her caregiver and niece, Kelly Dawn as well as many nieces and nephews.

Gertie was predeceased by her daughter Elizabeth Tracey and sister Julie Elizabeth Fudge.

Visitation for the late Laura Young will be held from 7 – 9 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17 at T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. on Wednesday November 18 at Christ the King Church, Sydney. Rev Glen Kent will officiate.
