Westmount / Membertou
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Margaret (MacDonald) Gould on Tuesday October 27, 2015 at the MacGillivray Guest Home with family by her side.
Born in Sydney in 1923, she was the daughter of the late Chas and Phoebe (Tutty) MacDonald. On the death of her mother, Margaret left Sydney Academy to support her dad in raising his large family, a job well done.
Margaret is survived by her son, Glennis (Edna) Scotland, Ontario; grandchildren Mark, Chris and Keira, six great grandchildren, her sister Anne Richardson and brothers Charles (Norma), Halifax and Robert Kinear ‘Bob’, Sydney and sister-in-law Joyce, Ontario.
She was predeceased by her husband Charlie, sisters Edith Hawco, Beth MacQueen, Bertie Theriault, Mary in infancy, Baby Marg, Abbie Wambolt, brothers John, Stephen, Donald, David and James both in infancy, sister-in-law Violet MacDonald, brothers-in-law Bernie MacQueen, Amedee Theriault , Howie Richardson and Alec Hawco.
Margaret leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly and thought of as her own as well as her extended family, Jane MacDonald, Ontario, Duncan Gould and Adam Gould, Membertou. She was ‘Aunt Mag’ to all.
Marg will be remembered for her sense of humour, her generosity, her caring for others and more than anything her love of family and friends. She loved a good game of cards, bingo and visits to “George Street” with her friends.
Marg was employed by Brown’s Jewelers leaving for a position with Sears until her retirement in 1986. On retirement, Marg and Charlie were on the road, spending winters in Florida and summers at their trailer at Seal Island. Marg was a life member of the R.C. Legion Branch 12 Ladies Auxiliary. She supported Membertou in every way possible and enjoyed her time as Brownie leader and the yearly trips to Sainte Anne de Beaupré with the elders.
In keeping with Marg’s wishes, there will be no visitation. Private family interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery where she will he laid to rest next to Charlie with Father Alex MacLellan officiating.
Marg won her battle with cancer twenty years ago but just couldn’t win the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. She will be remembered by her loving family and friends.
