It is with broken hearts that we, the family of Margaret MacDonald, formerly of 278 Cabot St., announce her passing on Monday, July 4, 2016 at the Cove Guest Home in Sydney. She was 100 years old.
Margaret was born in Sydney on April 24, 1916 to the late Joseph and Agnes (MacDougall) MacMullin.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. As a young woman, she worked at the Co-op Grocery Store on Prince St.. She belonged to the St. Rita Hospital Auxiliary for many years. Margaret enjoyed all kinds of music (especially Scottish music), dancing, skating and bowling.
The happiest day of her life was her wedding day on August 8, 1944 when she married Derrick MacDonald, the love of her life. Together they raised 8 children and they always supported and encouraged them in music, singing, hockey, skating, basketball and baseball. Both of our parents always maintained a large rink in the backyard during the winter months.
Margaret is survived by her children Shauna Doolan, Anslem (Kay), Stan (Stephanie), Terrence (Sharon) and Margaret Theresa MacDonald. She is survived by her grandchildren whom she adored; Melanie (Lloyd), Marc (Jolene), Derek (Carla), James, Sarah (Roddy), Chris (Lisa), Angela (Brandon), Laurie Weir, Jeffrey (Brianne) and Stephanie MacIntyre. Margaret is also survived by 20 beautiful great grandchildren. She also leaves behind 13 nephews and nieces, on sister, Mary, one sister-in-law Mary McMullin and one brother-in-law Stan MacDonald.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Derrick in 1977, her daughter Corinne and two children in infancy, Pauline and Lawrence; one son-in-law Edward Doolan, 4 brothers Lawrence, Jocus, Benny and Hugh; 6 nephews and 2 sisters-in-law.
Visitation for Margaret MacDonald will be on Thursday, July 7 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11 am at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church with Rev. Bill Burke officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
