Madelyn Costello, 83 of Sydney River, died Sunday, February 14, 2010 after a long illness. She has been called to God to continue her singing with His choir of Angels.
In her early years, she was employed with the Coop Grocery Store in Ashby, then, Madelyn stayed home to raise her family, and later she and Cyril owned and operated the Tropicana Restaurant and Lounge, where she met many new friends. For many years she was an active member of the Sydney Pensioners Club.
Madelyn was predeceased by her husband Cyril, her parents James and Anastacia (nee Bruce) Hickey, and her sister Rita (Bill) Cameron, Boston.
Madelyn will be dearly missed by her 8 children, Roger, Sydney River; Barry (Starla), Sydney River; Rick (Darlene), Balls Creek; Debbie (Don) Kyte, Cole Harbour; David (Helen), Coxheath; Diane (Tiree) Macgregor, Dartmouth; Celeste (Stuart) MacPherson, Dartmouth and Colleen (Bobby) Dunn, Sydney River; and her 20 grandchildren, Todd (Holly) Costello, Lana (Joe) Harvey, Josh Costello, Andrew, Erin, Matthew, and Jenna Kyte, Ben and Aprill Costello, Kirsty, Deirdre, Morven, Callum and Ceitidh MacGregor; Dakota, Cameron, Abby and Rachel MacPherson, and Gregory and Angelica Dunn, and 4 great grandchildren Nathan Redmond, Megan Costello, Breanne Johnson and Kieran Kyte. Survived also by her sisters Theresa (Wilfred) MacDonald, and Cecelia Mortimer, Sydney and her brothers Jim Hickey, Sydney and Jack (Betty) Hickey, Port Hawkesbury.
Special thanks to the residents, their families and the staff at MacDougall Court, Harbourstone Enhanced Care, who have been her dear and considerate friends for the last three years.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation for Madelyn Costello will take place from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17 at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Rev. William MacPherson officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
