Mary was born on October 14th, 1919 in New Waterford N.S. to Dan Hughie MacKinnon and Margaret Matheson. She was the last surviving member of the family.
Mary and her husband Les built their family home on Royal Ave in Sydney and resided there for over seventy years. Together, they raised three sons. When Les retired from the steel plant, they liked to spend time at their cottage at Sangaree on the Mira. They also liked to travel, which took them to many faraway places like Hawaii, Mexico, England and Florida to name a few. They also made many trips to B.C. to visit family. Mary was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.
She loved to work with her hands and was always eager to try the newest trends in the crafting world. She sewed, knitted, crocheted, did ceramics, macramé as well as painting. Mary was an active member of the Steelworker’s Senior Club. She participated in their many activities including; bowling, cards and darts. Her hands were never idle.
Mary is survived by her three sons; Robert (Kathie) Victoria B.C., Fred (Sally) Moncton N.B. and Bill (Joan) White Rock B.C. She is also survived by three grandsons; Marc, Dean and Kent as well as two great-grandchildren Katelyn and Nathan.
Besides her parents, Mary was predeceased by her loving husband Les, her son Gerald (in infancy) and daughter-in-law Moira. Mary was also predeceased by her siblings; John Willie, James Albert, Boyne, Donald Hugh, Roy, Dan Hugh as well as siblings Alexander, Angus, John Edward and Artwell Francis in infancy. Also siblings; Cora, Sadie, Effie, Jessie and Mary (sister).
The family would like to thank the staff at Victoria Haven Guest Home for the excellent care and attention they provided for Mary during her stay. Robert, Fred and Bill would also like to give a very special thank you to Hughie MacKinnon (Mary’s nephew) for all that he has done for her. He has shown exceptional kindness to Mary in many ways. The family will never forget- Thank you Hughie.
