Kathleen “Kaye” MacLeod, 95, passed away peacefully at her home of 57 years in Sydney’s North End on July 9th, 2020. Born in New Glasgow, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary Alice (Pitts) Gerrior. She is survived by sons Fred (Ruth), Sydney, Australia and Allen, Sydney, Cape Breton, grandchildren Shona, Helen, Ben and Bonnie and great grandchildren Ines and Ezekiel. The 6th of 19 children, she is also survived by sisters Jean, Mary (Honey) and Theresa along with brothers Cyril (Jimmy) and Robert (Smokey). She was predeceased by her huband Fred Tyrus, (1986), daughters Mary Eleanor (1949) and Donna Louise (2016) and also 13 of her siblings. She was a stay at home mom but the church was a huge part of her life. She was the sacristan at Sacred Heart Church for the best part of 50 years and was very proud of a medal she received from Pope Francis commemorating her hard work. We were thinking of bronzing her washing machine and ironing board as they were used non-stop for many years to keep the church linens sparkling. She was a life long member of the CWL and volunteered for many years at the Catholic Charities Thrift Store on George Street. She gave to many, many charities, but had a special place for the SPCA as she and her daughter, Donna looked after every stray cat in the neighbourhood as well as a dozen inside the house. Kaye loved the Toronto Blue Jays, knew the players well and often chastised the management when they lost. In later years, she became a big curling fan and her favourite skip was Jennifer Jones. The family would like to thank the VON, Home Care and Palliative Care for their help in keeping mom comfortable in her home over the last few months as her health deteriorated. We would also like to give a special thanks to Nina Brown, Rachael Short and Wendy MacIntyre for the many gifts of meals and love they provided during mom’s final days and to Bernice MacDonald and Mavis Morrison for their help while mom resided at the assisted living apartments on Xavier Drive. A visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 14 from 7-9pm at TW Curry Parkview Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 15 at 10:00am at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church with Fr. Bill Burke officiating and Fr. Doug Murphy con-celebrating. Interment to take place in Lourdes, New Glasgow at a later date. To the MacLeod family, my deepest sympathy go out during this solemn time. I grew up with your sister Donna, went to H A High and though we drifted apart afterwards, she left me with such memories of your mom when I would visit. Know her smile will warm all as she guides you though your pain. Marilyn S

Sincere condolences to the family of Mary MacLeod, although I was just a little girl since seeing both Fred & Mary, I remember my Mom & Dad (Aullie & Kay Hendsbee) speak of them with fondness throughout the years. My Dad & Fred we’re first cousins. Mary’s obit describes a remarkable lady with deep faith, I wish I had known her more. I watched the video in awe of your memories, such a beautiful capture of special moments....caring thoughts to the family in your loss of Mary xo.

Your Mom was one who always had a smile for your friends.
When I called to get Fred's phone number years ago ... she brought me up to date on what was happening in the neighborhood.
