Mary Ellen Sullivan

It is with broken hearts that we the family of Mary Ellen Sullivan announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother on Feb. 20, 2021. Born in Sydney on January 15, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Phyllis and William Murphy of Sydney. She was also a member of St. Andrew’s United Church, Sydney and a member of the church choir for many years, which she truly enjoyed. In later years mom was a member of United Heritage Church and sang in the choir there also. She is survived by her six children, daughters Debbie (Brian) Costigan of Sydney, Phyllis MacDonald (Eddie Brace) Sydney, Patricia Smits, Sydney, Carol (Shane Doyle) Moncton, NB, sons Dougie Sullivan, Sydney, John (Dee Dee) Sydney. She was very proud grandmother of 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Mom is also survived by 2 sisters Emelie MacVicar and Lillian Redmond both of Sydney and Donna Landry who held a special place in her heart and was like a daughter. Mom was predeceased by the love of her life Kareem ‘Creamie’ Sullivan as well as her son William Sullivan in infancy, granddaughters Angela Marie Smits and Jennifer Marie and daughter-in-law Karen Sullivan. Visitation will be held at TW Curry Parkview Chapel on Wednesday, Feb. 24 from 2-4 and 7-9 with COVID restrictions in effect. A private family service will follow. For those wishing to attend the service virtually it will be livestreamed via TW Curry’s Facebook page on Thursday, Feb. 25 starting at 2:00pm. Mary was a wonderful friend as well as a great Mom and Grandmother. During her lifetime she touched many people with her kindness, generosity and caring personality. She will be missed greatly.

To Sullivan Family,
We were very sad to hear of Mary’s passing. For many years your mom and dad were wonderful across the street neighbours and after that tenants in one of our rental units. We have many fond memories of your mom and her kindness towards my children. The kids always looked forward to Halloween because Mary always made them special candy apples and the door was always open so Grant could come over for a visit to chat with Kareem. She loved her family dearly and would always tell me stories about how everyone was doing. She was very proud of you all. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers as you go through this most difficult time.
