It is with the deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Leif Erickson on January 15th, 2022. Michael was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, and friend who touched the lives of countless people. He was born on June 29th, 1962, in Cornwall, Ontario and was the son of Leif “Doods” and Monica Erickson. He was raised in Sydney, Nova Scotia where he worked at Scotsburn Dairy for 40 years.
Michael could be found happily tinkering in his garage, tending his garden or out on the water fishing. The time he treasured most was spent with his family and friends. Sharing a joke, telling a story or catching up on the news of friends and family was a time of pure joy to Michael. He would always be quick to join in and share the laughs.
Michael had an extraordinary talent to fix anything rusty or broken. This was a gift many people came to appreciate as Michael would generously put his hands and mind to the items they presumed were lost or hopelessly damaged and make them new again. Michael will be remembered in the moments he shared with others, card nights with his friends, nightly coffee runs to Tim Hortons, and warm summer nights on his back deck or around the firepit.
Michael’s laughter was contagious whether he was coining a funny phrase or celebrating good news. He simply had an uncanny ability to put a smile on anyone’s face and erase any bad mood. To anyone who felt blue or lost, Michael made them feel hopeful and welcome and he did it with ease.
Michael will be missed by all those whose lives he touched. He is survived by parents Doods and Monica, his wife and soulmate of 30 years, Annette (Dowie), his three children: Erin (Abby), Patrick (Elyse) and Katie (Cody) and fur baby Macy who were his source of constant and deepest pride. He will be greatly missed by his sisters: Ina (Richard) Globe and Lynda Hill, Sisters-in laws: Janice Hollohan, Rita MacQueen (Cyril), Cathy Dowie (Karl), and brother-in-laws: Danny Dowie (Thelma), Lowell Crowe, and mother-in-law Theresa Dowie. Also left to mourn are his many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Michael was predeceased by his brother Patrick, brother-in-law Andy Hill, sister-in-law Marie Crowe, Brothers-in-law Sandy Dowie, Jimmy Hollohan, and Father-in-Law Alex Dowie.
Since Michael has left us, there will be less laughter, the flowers will bloom less brightly, and the world will seem a little emptier... His memories will bring tears and sadness, but in time will bloom and grow to make us smile and laugh again.
In honor of Michael’s wishes there will be no visitation or service. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.twcurry.com. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the MacGillivray Guest Home.
