86 – Mass./Big Pond/ East Bay

It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Michael A. MacDonald, on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 in Haverhill, MA.

Born in Big Pond, N.S., to the late Dan J. and Isabel (MacIntyre) MacDonald. Big Mike, as he was known, is the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Dad was a kind and gentle man with a great sense of humor who loved spending time at his home in East Bay, Cape Breton, fiddle music, dancing and Gaelic songs. Dad instilled his love for Cape Breton, its people, music and dance in each of us.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Martha (Martina MacIsaac), daughters, Christina (Wally) Murphy, Alanna MacDonald, Anne (Richard) Packard, Carol (Terry) Melanson and son Michael MacDonald, all of MA. He will be remembered as a loving Papa by grandchildren: Devin, ‘Chrissy’, Brenda, Ryan, Stephen, Jimmy, Travis, Shawna and great grandchildren Brianna, Joshua, Riley and Shanna.

He was predeceased by his son Daniel in 1989 and a daughter in infancy and by his sisters: Rachael (Joe) MacIsaac, Effie (Malcolm) MacKinnon, Mary (Mickey) MacKinnon, Catherine (Sandy) MacKinnon and Betty (Ernie) Ross.

Visitation for Mr. MacDonald will take place on Sunday, Sept. 5 from 5-9 p.m. at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney, N.S. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, Sept. 6 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church, East Bay, N.S. with Fr. Frank Abbass officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery.
