Nancy M. MacDonald

September 2, 1949February 5, 2021

Nancy “Nastasie”, age 71, left us peacefully, February 5th, 2021 as her time here on Mother Earth came to an end. Nancy was delivered into this world by her great aunt Elizabeth, her mother's godmother, and her father's aunt. She grew up as a holy terror, that liked to climb and throw rocks. As mischievous as she was, she was very smart and caring. Nancy was the daughter of Big Francis and Virginia Googoo, a proud Mi'kmaq family. She loved playing Waltez with her younger sister Mary Louise. She had many childhood friends, her dearest being Margaret (Mood) Googoo, they were inseparable growing up. Nancy married the love of her life, Randy, shortly after graduating from Mabou. Married to her best friend for 44 years they shared a love for travel, business and learning. Very fashionable in her time she worked in Boutiques across the province, then with Micmac News, Membertou. She then found fulfillment working in her home community of Wagmatcook as Band Manager and Economic Development Officer. When not working she could be found swimming and collecting driftwood on the Bras d’Or lakes-her favorite place, she lit those lake nights with bonfires to the sky. She could be heard telling ghost stories and perhaps even the occasional psychic reading if you were her chosen one. To some she was eccentric, to those that knew her, she was special. A devoted mother, protecting her two cubs Natasha & Jason, she was known as “momma bear”. She shone brightest as grandmother to Jaden and Savannah, passing onto them her teachings and adventurous nature. After her husband past she came out of retirement at the age of 65. Her adventuress side took her North to work as an Economic Development officer for the Hamlet of Igloolik, NU. Her tenure was cut short due to a fall leaving her a quadriplegic, but that didn't end her positive outlook in life or her Mi'kmaq Spirit. Nancy's trail blazing spirit and love of life gathered many lifelong friends. She lit a room with her presence and warm smile. Her selfless acts of kindness were not reserved for few instead shared with many. Those of us that had the pleasure to be a part of her journey were blessed by her kindness, her strongest virtue. Her life and love are a gift to be celebrated. The record shows Nancy took her blows, but her strength got her through. She had a beautiful life and lived it, her way. Surviving are her daughter, Natasha (Ronnie) Jamieson; son, Jason; sister, Mary Louise Bernard; granddaughters, Jaden and Savannah; godchild/niece, Ashley Bernard; nieces, Michelle Bernard and Jacklyn MacDonald; godchild, Mary Lou Peck; as well as her “sisters”, great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Randy; mother and father, Virginia and Francis; sisters, Linda, Brenda and Nora; nephew, Jonathan Bernard. Special acknowledgement and thanks to nurses and staff at Oakwood Terrace. Visitation will be held on February 17th, 2021 from 10am to 4pm at the Elders Center, 60 Fishery Road, Wagmatcook. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting

Natasha, Jason, Mary Louise and Family:
I worked with Randy for years in Sydney (DIAND) and spent many fun weekends with Nancy and Randy at their home in Sydney and Orangedale. Yes, she did psychic reading!
Sending each of you my heartfelt condolences and sincere sympathy. They are together again.

Natasha, Jason, Mary Louise, Family, & extended families…. Deepest Sympathy on Your Loss! We recently met Nastasie online and during that short period we kept in touch often, but suddenly noticed our communications severed, later “shocked & saddened” to learn of her passing! While our “connection/friendship” was short lived, it (she) gave us a “sense” of a “lifelong friendship” which we shall “ forever treasure”……. “remembering” a very “special human being” who “accomplished & contributed” so “much” during her time here on Mother Earth! She will be missed! Our Thoughts and Prayers are with you all during this difficult time.
