It is with deep sadness that we, the family of Patricia MacInnis, announce her passing on July 27, 2021. Our irreplacable Mom died at home, surrounded by her husband and four daughters after a four-year battle with cancer. Mom had an indomitable zest for life and fought cancer with grace, dignity, strength and so much courage.
Patricia was born in Sydney, NS, to Justice Vincent and Elizabeth Morrison on 16 March 1951 and grew up in the North End of Sydney with her sister and best friend Glenna, brother Johndavid, and sister Susan. She loved reading and rose to the challenge of memorizing poems favoured by her father, reciting them in later years as enthusiastic toasts. She attended Holy Angels High School and later graduated from St Rita's Nursing School as an RN in 1973.
Over her 40-year career as a hardworking nurse, she brightened the lives of patients and colleagues alike with her gentle, grounded approach to patient care. She was proud of her professional accomplishments, and even prouder of the family she built with her husband, Greg. She was never happier than when all four of her girls were home and she could provide them with a squeeze, a story, a boxed lunch or an extra ladle of her legendary gravy!
Tishie was a foodie before it was cool to be a foodie. She loved to try new foods and had a talent for describing meals she enjoyed with great enthusiasm. For all our lives, and even during her own bouts with illness, Mom insisted on preparing and providing gifts of homemade food to celebrate happy occasions and console those coping with sad ones. She loved to socialize, have fun and could be counted on to take over (or create) the dance floor at any gathering.
Tishie's pride and joy were her five grandchildren. They will have fond memories of spending hours with her reading stories, singing songs, snuggling and sharing big laughs. Nan had an irreverent streak and loved telling the grandkids stories of their mommies' childhoods and “expanding their vocabulary” with cheeky comebacks she'd heard from us.
Patricia is survived by her husband of 46 years, Greg; her four daughters: Melanie MacInnis (Rick Whiting, Ottawa, ON), Meghan Mombourquette (Mike, Sydney), Catriona MacInnis-Bannister (Patrick, Lawrencetown) and Cara MacInnis (Billy Joe Mansfield, Calgary, AB); and her five grandchildren: Sienna, Ella Rose, Koa, Sidney and Dani; sister Glenna MacAdam (Ronnie, Sydney, NS); brother Johndavid Morrison (Rose, Markham); sister Susan Morrison (Halifax), and many dear nieces and nephews. She was well loved by all of us and gave back twice as much in return.
The family would like to express thanks to the friends, family and health professionals who supported Mom and the rest of us throughout these last few difficult weeks, especially her sister Glenna, who went above and beyond to ensure we were all well-supported, well-hugged, and (per family tradition) very well fed!
A visitation is planned for 6-9pm on Friday, July 30 at TW Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00am on Saturday, July 31st at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Fr. Patrick O’Neill officiating.
“Love doesn't die, people do. So when all that is left of me is love, give me away.”
