It is with heartfelt sadness that we, the family announce the peaceful passing of Pius Joseph Marshall at home on Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the age of 61.

Born on October 31, 1954 in Sydney, he was the son of the late Caroline (Googoo) and the late Grand Chief Donald Marshall. He joined his family in heaven on his mother’s birthday.

Pius worked as a drywaller with his late father and later on his own. He was an avid Blue Jays fan and also a Toronto Maple Leafs fan all his life. He was a member of St. Anne’s Mission Church in Membertou and St. Marguerite Bourgeois parish. He also played hockey and ball in his earlier days and was an elder of the Membertou Senior’s Club.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a friend to many. Pius is survived by his loving wife, Doreen (Googoo), his children, Shylo (Shaun) Kiley and Holly (Noel), both of Membertou; Courtney Sylliboy of Sipeknekatik, NS; stepdaughters, Sylvia, Annie, and Mary; grandchildren, Colton, Chelsea, Noel Jlj, Ainslee and Shanna; sisters, Roseanne Sylvester (Joe) of Caribou Marsh; Josephine LaPorte (Chris) and Laura Marshall (Wade), Coxheath; Donna and Virginia Marshall, Membertou; brothers, David (Terry Lynn); Terry (Lee); John; Simon (Adrianna); Stephen (Sheila), all of Membertou; goddaughter Claire Meuse and a large number of nieces and nephews.

Pius was predeceased by his parents, sisters Donna and Bernice and Margaret Madelaine in infancy, a son Mathew Luke in infancy, brother Donald Jr., brother-in-law Stephen Gould and his godparents Frank and Mary Jane Doucette.

Visitation for Mr. Marshall will begin on Sunday, September 18 after 7 pm at his residence on 136 Membertou Street, Membertou. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 20 at 11 am at St. Marguerite Bourgeois Church with Fr. Bill Burke officiating. Burial to follow in Membertou Memorial Gardens. Salite to follow at the Membertou Trade & Convention Center.
