OBITUARY
Raylene Ann Morykot
September 7, 1973 – February 21, 2021
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, and daughter, Raylene Ann Morykot, age 47, after an 18-month battle with cancer. Raylene is survived by her husband, Paul Campbell, and her three children, Owen (18), Abigail (14) and Isabella (6), Balls Creek; her parents, John and Deanie (Youden) Morykot, Sydney; her siblings, Donna (Eric Burchill) Morykot, Halifax; and Richard (Tracy Henderson) Morykot, Sydney; her mother-in-law, Odille Campbell, Pondville; and her husband’s siblings, Sean (Daphne) Campbell, Pondville; Joel Campbell, Halifax; Marc (Christina) Campbell, Texas. She was predeceased by her father-in-law, Bill Campbell. Raylene is also survived by her nieces and nephews, all of whom had a special place in her heart. Raylene grew up in Port Hawkesbury and Sydney. Her schooling took her to the University of New Brunswick (B.Sc.) and then Springfield University (M.Sc. (OT)) in Massachusetts. She worked as an Occupational Therapist first in Guelph, ON before returning with Paul and Owen to Cape Breton where she worked with the Red Cross. Raylene was a competitive athlete, with a lifelong love for her sports, volleyball and badminton. After playing volleyball for the University of New Brunswick and badminton for Team Nova Scotia at the Canada Games in Grande Prairie, she spent many years coaching Owen and Abi in both sports while teaching Izzy in their yard (and living room). Owen, Abi and Izzy were the sunshine of her life. Raylene loved spending time in Marble Mountain with all of her family and friends, especially while thumping everyone at tarabish in the kitchen or at badminton on the lawn. Raylene will be so missed; she was the best of us all.
Visitation to be held from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday, February 25 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George Street, Sydney. A private funeral service will be held on at St. Mary’s Polish Church. Those wishing to attend virtually may access the livestream on TW Curry’s Facebook page starting at 1:45pm on Friday, Feb. 26. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Breast Cancer Society of Canada or the Canadian Red Cross. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.twcurry.com.

I was very touched by the Tribute Movie, Condolences and Memories expressed by family and friends on the loss of Raylene... a testament of a very special lady. I did not know the Morykot Family. In some way I can relate to their sorrow and wanted to express my condolences. I lost a sister at age 44 leaving four children behind, the youngest age 6.
Thoughts and prayers are with the Morykot Family.

I first met Raylene as a young teenager and had the pleasure to get to know her during visits to Marble Mountain and then when she moved to Guelph. We spent lots of time together at her and Paul's home in Guelph playing with our young children, sharing meals, and simply enjoying life. She was always so welcoming and I appreciated how patient and not fussed she was about fancy details - it was always "come as you are". She was a force - a strong loving mother, wife and friend. Sending all my love and care to the Campbell and Morykot families.

I worked with Raylene for a short time at Red Cross but within that time she always spoke so highly of her family and how proud she was of her children.
She was very dedicated as a mother, and as an employee, she always powered through to complete anything that was given to her and took time to teach a long the way.
My condolences to her family and everyone effected by her loss. May you all find comfort during these difficult times.

Deanie and family. So sorry to hear of Raylene’s passing. As you know we can certainly relate to you sorrow. Parents should never have to bury a child. It especially sad when children are left behind without a mother. Time will help replace the painful memories of sickness and let the happy memories shine through.

Raylene and her family have been part of the Hartery family at Marble Mountain for many, many years. Raylene and Owen forged strong and joyous relationships with our grandchildren over the years. I will always see Raylene in a boat skimming the waves of Clark Cove. Our hearts are broken for Deanie and John, Donna and Richard, Owen, Abigail and Isabella. Her light will continue to shine over Marble Mt. and her lasting love will prevail. Rest In Peace Raylene.

So saddened to hear of Raylene's passing.
Though not have built a relationship with her,
I absolutely understand her impact on your family.
Bruddie and Deannie , I hope you guys are ok. And of course her husband and children.
As a parent and grandparent myself and knowing what this loss represents to you ,
I do know that every time you hear her through others, a tear and sadness will appear and eventually in due time it will bring a smile ,
That is when grief will turn into the appreciation of having been blessed by her living and being that intricate person in your family.
May her memories made with all of you be the blessings they are.

I was so sorry to hear of Raylene's passing earlier this week. I worked with Raylene as her Manager some time ago with Canadian Red Cross. She was a valuable part of the Red Cross Family and provided sympathetic and compassionate care to the clients she served.
Raylene’s greatest achievement of which she was most proud was her family and her children particularly. She spoke of them often and always with love and pride. She was very involved in their lives and enjoyed being a sports Mom.
The Lord must have a plan for Raylene to take her so early in life when she still had so much to do and so many family milestones to reach. She is now resting pain free in heaven still watching over all her family , friends and colleagues that she enjoyed so much. I loved her sense of humour, a beautiful smile and a gentle soul.
I know that she would never have imagined how many lives she touched in so many positive ways. May she Rest In Peace and will watch down over those she loved from the heavens.
She will be greatly missed and not forgotten.
Rest In Peace

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Raylene’s recent passing. Like many others, I as well, worked with Raylene at the Canadian Red Cross. She certainly stood out as a real leader, a true professional who always demonstrated a very kind and compassionate demeanour. She was a perfect fit for her position and was well respected and loved by staff, volunteers and RC clients. Raylene often shared stories with me about her children, who were clearly her pride and joy. My sincere condolences to your family, and may your wonderful memories help you through this difficult time.

My sincere heartfelt condolences to Raylene's beautiful family. I am so sorry to learn of Raylene's passing. It is heartbreaking. I worked with Raylene for many years at the RC. .She was a joy to be around, professional, and certainly preformed her job with a smile and such a great sense of humor...I asked her many times if I could go back to the "Cape" with her because it seemed like it would be more fun!!! We would laugh.... I always looked forward to seeing her, an absolute breath of fresh air. She never stopped talking about her beautiful children and I remember her pregnancy with baby girl.... Such an amazing woman who will live forever in the hearts of so many of us who had the absolute pleasure of knowing Raylene. My heart hurts for you all...hold each other close....she is right beside you...
Raylene, you are loved and are greatly missed..rest well sweet girl!

Dear Paul, Owen, Abi and Izzy, My deepest condolences to you. I knew Raylene when she first started at the Red Cross and had the pleasure of working with her for many years. I was able to know her best when she stepped into a temporary leadership role where she continued to help build one of the best health programs in the province - assisting thousands of vulnerable Nova Scotians. She was a brilliant, friendly and kind healthcare professional. But more importantly, every time I spoke with her she always spoke fondly of you, her husband and children and the activities you were involved. It was evident she loved you. My thoughts are with you and the Red Cross family (staff and volunteers). I know she will be dearly missed. Rest in peace, Raylene.

Very saddened to hear of Raylene’s passing. I worked with Raylene for many years; she as the Red Cross OT and myself as a consulting long term care OT and more recently a Care Coordinator. She was invaluable, an incredible source of knowledge and always had the client’s best interest at heart. Raylene positively impacted the lives of hundreds of clients, many who did not have the pleasure to meet her.
Condolences to her family, friends and colleagues. She will be missed!

My deepest condolences to Raylene’s family. She was a kind and caring person. We would often meet at the end of the day in the hallway of Brins de Soleil when she would be picking up Izzy, and I was picking up my daughter Faith after school. Our girls would be chatting and slowly getting ready, which allowed us to chat and catch up. Raylene and I were on the professional practice committee for the college of O.T.’s of N.S., of which she was a member for several years. She valued her role as an OT and contributed to our community in so many ways with the Red Cross program. She will be greatly missed by so many that had the pleasure of knowing and working with her.
Sending thoughts and prayers to all the family
during this difficult time,

It is hard to fill a lifetime of memories into 2000 words. Knowing your love of reading (?!) I will try to keep it brief. Adventures at Marble Mountain from the moment I could walk (and likely before), tube feeding Kennedy when was in a wedding 2 weeks postpartum, Guelph visits before I moved here to be closer to you, long chats over coffee, candy...I still have not met someone who loved it as much as you!! But most of all, your commitment to family..both yours and mine. You will always hold a very special piece of my heart. I am grateful for all the time we shared.

My deepest condolences to Raylene's family. I have had the pleasure of working with her for the last eleven years. She was always so professional in her Red Cross duties and the clients always got whatever was needed if at all possible. I also had the pleasure of attending conferences with her and she was so full of enthusiasm . We had a great chat the day before she went on leave, talking about my recent marriage, as she realized my name had changed. She also shared her reason for her leave with me. We had a connection through work and Arichat and Odile. I never realized that would be our last conversation. My deepest condolences to Raylene's family. Raylene was one in a million and there was no one quite like her. She was someone you could always count on and I feel blessed to have worked along side Raylene for 16 years. I recall fondly interviewing Raylene for the Occupational Therapist position for Cape Breton and I knew immediately she was the right person for the job! She was a smart, kind, hard working, genuine and down to earth. She was a leader. She was the perfect fit for our Red Cross family and she will be greatly missed. There are no words to truly describe how she had such a positive impact on the world, as she touched the lives of so many people. Her dedication to her family, friends, team and client's was far reaching. Raylene was an amazing wife and mother! She was so proud of her children and beamed when telling stories. My heart goes out to Paul, Owen, Abi, Izzy and all of her family and friends. Always loved. Always remembered. Rest in Peace Raylene. I will miss you!

I was saddened to learn of Raylene’s passing and offer my sincere sympathies to her husband, children and extended family for this unimaginable loss. Raylene joined the Canadian Red Cross in 2005 a few years before I did, so she’d been part of my Red Cross "family" since the day I joined the organization, and I always admired her professionalism, compassion and dedication to the thousands of clients she served in our Community Health programs in Cape Breton and beyond with her expertise in Occupational Therapy. The respect she enjoyed from her colleagues was always evident. While most of her career was in our Sydney office, Raylene was a frequent visitor to our Dartmouth location, including one lengthy deployment as an acting provincial supervisor to cover a colleague’s maternity leave, so even more of us benefitted first-hand from her expertise and strong work ethic, friendliness and quiet humour. Rest in peace, Raylene.
