Richard Joseph Bonaparte 65 – Iona

It is with broken hearts that we announce the death of Richard Joseph Bonaparte, 65, of Iona. Richard passed away peacefully Thursday, March 7, 2013 surrounded by his loving family at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital in Baddeck after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Roddie Bonaparte and Daphne (Bonaparte) Northen.

Richard worked for the Department of Transportation for 25 years. He was an avid sports enthusiast. He was a coach and player of local softball teams. Richard was also a big Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers fan which caused a few rivalries with some of his nieces and nephews. He has a great passion for genealogy. He also had an ear and a great talent for music which he loved to share with family and friends over the years. Richard also loved watching nature from his living room window.

He is survived by Josie, his loving and devoted wife of 36 years. He will be dearly missed by his children, who were his pride and joy; son Warren (Ashley), Halifax; daughter Ashley Faye, at home. Richard is also survived by his siblings; Trevor (Lorraine), Stevie, Carol, Phillip (Darlene), Ellen, Mary (George), Cathy (Dave), Rod (Pat), Anthony, Danny, John (Lily), Jeannie (Steve), Patty (Dwight), and stepsisters Anne and Joan (Eric). He leaves to mourn his many nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly. Also, his only godchild Dakota Richard Johnson and his special little friend Isabelle.

Richard was predeceased by his infant son Roderick Matthew, sister Peggy and stepfather Cosmas.
