It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and brother, Richard Ross Chabassol, on Monday, July 19, 2021, at the Halifax Infirmary after a three year journey with interstitial lung disease.
Born in Westville, Nova Scotia, October 23, 1950, he was the son of the late Joseph and Charlotte (Ross) Chabassol. He was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, William and Dolores Chabassol; his sister, Anne Gauthier; and his best fur buddy, Lily. He will be forever missed by his wife, Joanne; daughters, Allison (Stéphane Lemaire) and Claire (Jamie Gillis); his sisters, Ruth (Peter) Williamson and Charlotte Chabassol; brothers-in-law, Michael Gauthier and Paul (Heather) Hickey; sisters-in-law, Susan McKay and Louise (Angus) Fleming; and many nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Richard.
A former member of the RCMP, Richard spent most of his career as a probation officer with the Nova Scotia Department of Justice. He was a patient and trusted mentor to colleagues and clients alike.
He was a true gentleman - thoughtful, kind, respectful and generous. He had a special ability to connect with everyone he met, and he always put others before himself.
He died the way he lived; with grace, humility and gratitude. As we navigate life without him, we will continue to be guided by his strength, courage, and spirit.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 22, 2021, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Funeral Home in Sydney. Funeral service will be held Friday, July 23, 2021, at 10 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church in Whitney Pier.
