It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my beautiful, wonderful mom Roberta Eileen Wadden on December 21, 2025 at the Cape Breton Hospice, following a brief illness due to cancer. I myself was holding her hand and Rita & Judy were with her as she passed.
Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was born to parents, the late Ethelbert and Hazel (Chappell) Penny. She is survived by her daughter Susan (Tom) Colborne, granddaughter Amanda Colborne, grandsons Jeremy (Alyssa) Colborne and Rene Lewis Countway (Mackayla). She is also survived by 4 stepsons, Bobby (Carol), Donnie (Donna), Aubrey (Charlotte) and George, 3 stepdaughters Geraldine (Bernie) Bresson, Bernadette (Doug) Burke and Rita (Mark) Ongo as well as many cousins, including one special cousin Dolores Assoun. Mom worked as a housekeeper at City Hospital and then the Regional up until her health caused her to retire in 1998. She was always looking after anyone who needed her. She had a heart full of kindness and compassion.
Susan would like to thank her friends, coworkers and family who helped, especially in the last 11 months; cousins Dolores, Rita, Mark, Michael, Ashley, Judy, Nancy and George. I apologize if I have forgotten anyone. While mom was at the Regional, thanks to Janice Edwards CCA for her great care. Thank you also to the wonderful staff at the Cape Breton Hospice , Dr. D'Intino, Dr. Fitzgerald, Dr. Burns and all the nurses and staff who gave mom such great care and comfort. You all went above and beyond, from cooking her whatever she wanted to singing Christmas Carols to brighten her up. You were all so kind and thoughtful.
Visitation will take place from 11 until 1pm on Saturday, Dec. 27 at TW Curry Parkview Chapel with a Funeral Service starting at 1pm. Inurnment to take place at a later time in Forest Haven Cemetery.
