Ronald John Gillis

On February 16, 2022, Ronald John Hugh Gillis, age 67, of Whitney Pier passed away at the Northside General Hospital after a long battle with cancer. Ronald was the son of the late John and Rita Gillis. He is survived by his brother, Archie and sister-in-law, Donna (Kyte) of Dartmouth and their children, Aaron (Beth Pettigrew​) of Ottawa, and Janaya Seath (Evan) and their children, Hannah, Maya and Naomi of Dartmouth; his sister, Mary Louise of Whitney Pier; and many cousins.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister Mary Catherine in infancy. Ronald graduated from Sydney Academy and later from Dalhousie and TUNS with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for Ontario Hydro in Sarnia, Ontario for many years until his retirement to Cape Breton.

Cremation will take place. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wed, Aug 31st, at 10am, at Holy Redeemer Parish in Whitney Pier. A graveside service at Resurrection Cemetery will follow immediately after the church service. Due to covid, we are asking that everyone wear a mask while attending the church service, if you are able to do so.
