98 – Sydney River
On this day, November 24, 2011, our family has lost our beloved mother, proud grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, Sarah Ann ‘Sadie’ Keough. Mom was born November 18, 1913 and was the daughter of the late Alexander and Mary Ann (Morrison) Campbell. She was raised in Whitney Pier in her parents loving home with her eleven sisters and two brothers. Sadie was a graduate of the Provincial Normal College in Truro, Nova Scotia and taught many students throughout her teaching career which began in a country school on the Meadows Road. Much of her teaching career was in Whitney Pier. Over the years, she often met and remembered fondly many students she had taught years before. Mom was blessed with a very keen mind and a gentle spirit. Mom and Dad spent most of their married years as members of Holy Redeemer parish. In 1990, they moved to Sydney River and became members of Our Lady of Fatima parish. Sadie cherished her faith and was a lifetime member of the C.W.L. Her Christian values were exhibited in her daily life and in the interactions with her family and friends. In August, 1944, she married her devoted husband William ‘Bill’ Keough. Together they raised five children. Dad predeceased Mom in March of 1992. Mom is survived by her children Louise (Tony) Tierney, Kevin Keough, Coleen (Gerard) MacKenzie, Kathy (Colin) Spencer and Terry (Donna) Keough. Mom’s family grew over the years to include nine grandchildren Lynne (Troy) MacKay, Alana (Todd) Moore, Brian (Shealann) Tierney, Annabel (Simon) Hirst, Glenn MacKenzie, Allan (Lisa) MacKenzie, Jenna (Nick) Johnson, Lisa and Matthew Spencer. She is also survived by twelve delightful great grandchildren Jillian, Josh and Olivia MacKay; Alyssa, Emily and Brennan Moore; Janelle, Ashlyn and Alyse Tierney and Kayla, Liam and Connor Hirst. Mom loved her family and they truly were her pride and joy. Mom is also survived by two sisters Veronica Campbell and Theresa (Basil) Lewis and by many nieces and nephews and many close friends. She will be greatly missed by all of us. She was predeceased by sisters Louise, Jessie, Martina, Marguerite Kennedy, Peggy MacNeil, Mary Burke, Agnes MacDougall, Sister Coline CND and two brothers Roderick and Michael. Visitation for Sadie Keough will be held Friday (today) from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 11 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Rev. Duaine Devereaux officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks. We very much appreciate the wonderful care shown to Mom by her caregiver of the past year, Agnes Sweeney. The family wishes to also express a special thank you to Dr. Peter Jackson, Palliative Care, the V.O.N., the nursing staff of ER, 4D and An Cala Units at Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Memorial donations can be made to Palliative Care or the V.O.N. Online condolences to www.twcurry.com
