It is with profound sadness the we announce the passing of our mother Sheila Tynski (née McCarron) on September 27th, 2019 after 18 years of beating the odds.

The daughter of the late Christina and John (Jack) McCarron, Sheila worked as an obstetrics nurse for 31 years at St. Rita’s, and finished her career as Head Nurse at the Regional Hospital. Sheila treasured her valuable memories with the girls on the third floor.

Sheila is survived by her loving family, including son Michael (Tanya) of Summerside, daughter Stephanie (Ron) Tynski-Gillis of Big Ridge, and son Kris (Laurie) of Beechmont; grandchildren, Evan (Melissa), Mikaela, Christina (Ryan), and Neil (Hanna); siblings, Christina Galloway, Colleen (James) Tanner, and sister-in-law Jeanette McCarron; and former husband Bob (Donna) Tynski.

Sheila was predeceased by her brothers, Jim (Laurie), Roddie, Frank, and Terry; sisters, Catherine (Tony) Kolanko and Viola (Frank) Nemeth; and granddaughter Sarah Beth.

She enjoyed spending time with her Kane Street family, playing bingo, and visiting neighbours. In later years, she lived in Big Ridge and enjoyed her summers in Grand Mira South, where she quickly became a part of the Gillis clan. We are forever grateful to Sheila’s son-in-law Ron, whose love and support allowed her to spend the most challenging parts of her life at home.

Sheila’s extraordinary journey would not have been possible without the exceptional care provided by Dr. Ron McCormick and the girls at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre. We would also like to thank Dr. Carol Critchley, whom she considered a lifelong friend, the VON, and the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.

Visitation will be held at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney, today (Monday, September 30th) from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, Grand Mira South on Tuesday, October 1st at 11 a.m. with Fr. Paul McGillivray officiating. A reception will follow at St. Margaret’s Community Hall. Donations in memory of Sheila may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Center.

Words of comfort may be sent to her family by visiting www.twcurry.com.
