It is with sadness that we share the news of the passing of our loving brother and uncle, Stephen Gillis, at home in Mira. Stephen was born and grew up in Sydney, NS, the youngest child of Bernard and Anne (MacPhee) Gillis. Stephen was a Red Seal carpenter who spent time working in Cape Breton and Western Canada. He was known for his big heart, infectious smile and generosity. Our brother loved spending time in Grand Mira with family and enjoyed water skiing, fishing and taking his nieces and other Victoria Bridge visitors tubing in the river. Stephen will be sorely missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by his siblings, Rose (Ian) MacDonald, Vincent (Deborah) Gillis, Jane Gillis, Norma (Alan) MacNeil and Leanne (Scott Christie) Gillis. Steve was a loving and proud uncle of nieces, Kate, Jan, Helen, Terri, Faye, Diana, Ashlynn, Sarah, Alexis, Claire and Anne as well as grand uncle to JR, Colin, Neil, Bailey and Owen. Stephen will be missed by his Gillis and MacPhee extended families. A visitation will be held at TW Curry Parkview Chapel on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020 from 6 until 9 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Church with Fr. Dennis Lamey and Fr. Norman MacPhee (Stephen’s Uncle) officiating.
