

Eskasoni
Stephen Davis Marshall, age 58 of 54 Horseshoe Drive, Eskasoni, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 8, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Maine, USA, he was the son of the late Abraham and Mary Jane (Marshall) Marshall.
He was a member of Holy Family parish, Eskasoni.Known as ‘Uncle Dad’ to the Joe family, Steve worked in construction and had a great passion of helping people in his community. He was honored to be part of the Mi’kmaw Grand Council for forty years, beginning at the age of 18 as the carrier of Saint Anne in Potlotek. He later then took the role of becoming the bell ringer and taught his grandson Ekkian to continue his role someday. He was known as the ‘Horseshoe Champ’ and has won many titles in Atlantic Canada and was recognized and honored by the NS Hall of Fame. He was three time Nova Scotia Men’s “A” Singles Champion and had many first place finishes “A” class throughout Nova Scotia in both singles and doubles. Even the street that he lived on was named after him, ‘Horseshoe Drive.’ He was a good man who loved to smile and joke around. He was lead usher for many years in his community church. Stephen took the pride of being the grandfather to his grandsons, especially to Ekkian (they had a special bond) and became his grandson’s number one fan in his sports.
He is survived by his daughter Selena Marshall-Cremo (Malcolm), Eskasoni and grandsons Ekkian and Ma’lkm; godchildren, Sue Ann Dennis, Levi Nicholas, Mary I. Joe, Angel Theresa Fortune, Austan Johnson, Lawrence Paul, Peter Paul; brothers, Joe, Patrick, Noel (Ginger), Albert ‘Uncle’, Shane; sisters Mary Catherine ‘Auntie’, Marie ‘Jai’; uncles, Mike, Leo and Lawrence Marshall, also by his sister-in-law ‘Joe’aq, nieces, nephews and his best friend Leon Denny.
Stephen was predeceased by his wife Mary Theresa (Joe), son Stephen Levi, brother Alfred ‘Auchie’ and sister Marion.
Visitation for the late Mr. Marshall will begin (today) Saturday, February 13 after 7 pm at the Gabriel Center, Eskasoni. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Monday in Holy Family Church with Rev. Martin MacDougall officiating. Internment in the parish cemetery, Eskasoni.
