It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our brother and uncle, Thomas George Poulette of Eskasoni First Nation, NS on July 4, 2021 at the age of 71. Tom passed away at the Harbourstone Enhanced Care Home in Sydney. A Residential School Survivor, he was born in Sydney, NS on Jan. 30, 1950 and was the son of the late Joseph and Susan (Denny) Poulette. He was predeceased by paternal grandparents Levi and Nancy Poulette, maternal grandparents Thomas and Madeline Denny, sisters Annie Marie, Irene and Elizabeth (Fred) Sacobie, Kingsclear First Nation, NB, brothers Alfred (in infancy), Jimmy David and Pi’kun (Alex). Tom worked with Canada Post and served as the Post Master in his home community of Eskasoni First Nation for 39 years. Tom was very committed to his community and supported any initiatives he was able to. A man of many talents and interests, he developed lasting friendships with all the people he came into contact with. He was always ready for a game of chess, darts, cards, karaoke or a musical jam session. He was also a traditionalist and had a special place in his heart for his sweat brothers and sisters. Tom was an avid Montreal Canadian Hockey Fan. He is survived by sisters Evange (Richard) Landry and Geraldine (Jack) Smith of Amherst, NS, special niece Tracey and her children, Susan who was Tom’s primary caregiver during his illness, Jordyn, daughter Khloe and nephew Koby. Tom fittingly placed them under his wing after the passing of his brother Pi’kun. Uncle Tom will be missed by all his nieces and nephews and his many godchildren. He will also be greatly missed by the whole community of Eskasoni and all First Nations Communities his presence touched. A visitation will be held at the Gabriel Center starting on Tuesday, July 13 at 7pm. Family Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30am on Thursday at Holy Family Church with Fr. Antolin Asor officiating. Interment to follow in Holy Family Parish Cemetery.
