It is with broken hearts that we, the family of the late Vera Leona Denny, announce her passing on June 29, 2021, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care in Sydney, N.S., surrounded by family and friends.
Vera Leona, 67, our beloved sister, niece, aunt, great aunt, great-great aunt and godmother was born September 7, 1953 to the late John R. and Mary (Gould) Denny.
Vera loved the opportunity to attend events or celebrations in her community so she could see people old and new. She enjoyed being greeted when she was out and about. Each year her birthday planning would begin a few months earlier. Vera loved visitors, her many purses and plushies, getting gifts and shopping. She would always want her outfits to go with accessories. Vera was also a member of Holy Family Parish.
She is survived by her brother Richard (Marina), two sisters Janet Toney and Madonna Johnson, her uncle Noel J. Gould, her aunt Virginia Googoo, her only godchild Janna Toney, her namesake baby Vera Leona, several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews as well as her many cousins.
Along with her parents Vera was predeceased by her paternal grandparents Richard and Bridget (Sylliboy) Denny, maternal grandparents Joseph and Annie Mae (Googoo) Gould, sisters Margaret R. Gould, Phyllis Marie and one baby sister in infancy, her brother in laws John L. Toney, John Sydney Gould, and Robert C. Denny, her uncles John, Andrew, Peter and Roddie Gould, Joseph R., Noel R., Michael R. and Matthew R., uncle and godfather Levi R. Denny, her aunts Nancy Paul, Briget Ann Basque, Mary Jane Stevens, Margaret (Denny) Stevens, Martha (Denny) Sylliboy, Angeline (Denny) Gould, aunt and godmother Josephine (Denny) Paul, nieces April Denny and Delores Gould, great nephews Harrison and Jamieson Gould, great niece Lena Gould and great-great nephews Eben, Antwon and Jax and great-great niece Amelia. While at Harbourstone Enhanced Care Vera also lost many dear friends.
Visitation will take place in her hometown of Eskasoni First Nation at the Elder Centre (46 Spencer’s Lane) starting at 7pm on Sunday, July 11th. A family funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, July 13 at 10:30am at Holy Family Parish with Fr. Antolin Asor officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the Eskasoni First Nation Facebook page for the community to attend virtually. Burial to follow in Holy Family Parish Cemetery.
