East Bay
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Vincent MacDonald, 74 of East Bay. Vince passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness on September 9, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney on September 16, 1948 he was a son of the late Lexie and Bernard MacDonald.
Vince retired from Sydney Steel after 30 years, he also worked at Wreck Cove Power Plan during construction. He was a member of Ski Atlantic Seniors Club and enjoyed many ski trips with them. He also enjoyed riding his Harley during summer after spending early spring in Florida. Vince was a past member of East Bay Community Council, Northside East Bay Fire Department and very active member of St. Mary’s Church in East Bay.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Sally (MacKinnon); brother, Bernie and a sister, Joanne.
Survived by children, Jason (Angela), Todd (Naiumie), and Melissa (Robert); sister, Patricia MacDonald, Mary (John) Ridge, sister in Law, Betty and brother in law, Mike; grandchildren, Cailin, Abigail, Molly, Matthew, and Avery; great grandchild, Skylar; many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 13 at T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. on Thursday, September 14 at St. Mary’s Church, East Bay. Fr. Evo DiPierro will officiate. Burial in parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
