It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of William "Bill" MacDonald on April 28, 2025. Born and raised in the North End of Sydney to the late Hughie D and Marcella (Campbell), he grew his sense of entrepreneurship from the family corner store Hughie D's.
After graduating from St FX, dad lived in Ontario and New Brunswick but the lure of Cape Breton, family and friends brought him home to Sydney. Dad had an outside influence on his community. He built houses and businesses, raised a family and was always entertaining and honest in his opinions.
A serial entrepreneur, dad was the 'Bill'' of Bill's Bikes and was an early promoter of home energy design with his Home Energy Audit business. In retirement, dad enjoyed his time spent in Christmas Island, his favourite personalized drink at Dr. Luke's A Respectable Coffee House, getting his 10,000 + steps in each day and enjoying family gatherings. He set the standard high with his legendary Boxing Day parties.
Left to mourn are his loving wife of 54 years, Joan (MacKenzie), children: Kenzie (Zuzana Istvankova), Christopher (Virginia Crough, Alberta) and Marisa (Anthony MacNeil) and his sister, Delores. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren Martin, Siobhan and Marcie along with a large close web of cousins, inlaws, nieces and nephews. We can thank Bill for being the glue in many lives maintaining legacy and being the hub in a large extended family.
Visitation will take place at TW Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George Street, on Thursday, May 1st from 5pm to 8 pm. The funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 1542 Kings Rd, Sydney River on Friday, May 2nd at 11 am with Father David Rankin officiating. Interment to follow at a later date.
